I just got a new 6950, I've reflashed it be a 6970, to replace my crossfired 5770's.
I have a 1920x1200 DVI main monitor with a old VGA panel as a secondary monitor.
I can not get the card/driver to discover the VGA panel. I am using a DVI to VGA adapter, I actually have two, one provided with the 5700's and one from the 6950. Neither work.

On the 5770's both monitors would display the BIOS at boot before the driver kicked in and shut off the second monitor until you logged into windows, now the VGA monitor is always just black so I am suspecting something is wrong at a hardware level, but I can't see how I have set it up wrong.

I do not want to buy any expensive active adapter to get this thing running but I don't see why I would have to as I only want to use 2 monitors.

Try the 2nd Dvi port on the card. Shut down, plug it into the other dvi port using the adapter and then power on.

You can't hot swap them to work.
