6950 2GB memory overclocking

What memory overclocks are you all seeing on your 2GB 6950s?

I got my new ASUS 6950 last week, unlocked the cores, and started tweaking with Afterburner. I kept incrementing the memory up by 25MHz, then did a run of Unigine Heaven to confirm stability and to make sure performance was increasing. I got up to 1550 before the benchmark finally crashed on me (performance kept increasing all the way through 1525). So I backed the memory clocks down to 1500, let Heaven run for about an hour, then did an hour of OCCT GPU with no errors.

I keep seeing stated overclocks in the 1300s and a few in the low 1400s, but mine seems perfectly content at 1500. Did I just happen to get one with some overachieving memory or is there some reason people aren't shooting for higher memory clocks?
 
I think you got a nice "overachiever". I get crashes after 1390, so I keep it dialed down to 1350.
My core on the other hand seems to totally great at over clocking, 920 at 1.12v ( i got one crash after i pushed it past 900, a tiny voltage bump solved it), and i haven't really even tried to push it further then that.
 
Ok, good to hear I'm not breaking some unwritten rule of 69X0 overclocking and killing my memory or some such.

Rocking the 5760x1200 Eyefinity now, so glad to get all the memory speed I can.

Core isn't quite as impressive. I bumped the voltage to 1.2V just to see what it's capable of. Only able to get about 930 stable so far.
 
I had the same experience as you. I reached 1525 without seeing a drop in performance and I run at 1500 usually.

And wow, 1030 on the core? Heck of a card you got there. Stock cooler? How much voltage does yours need for that?
 
It needs quite a bit, 1.29 v for 1030. And that's with reaching 1000 at 1.23 v. I don't want to go higher as independent sources cite ~1.30 v is a prudent place to stop. Right now I'm playing mostly older games on 1920x1080 and use a profile of 915/1375 at the stock 1.10 v. It's evident the sweet spot as far as clock scaling per voltage for my chip is around 1.15 to 1.20 v -- after that it takes increasingly hefty jumps to get even 10 MHz.

I'm happy with my Gigabyte card (memory OCs well too), but my CPU is roundly average. It requires quite a bit of voltage to even reach 3.80 GHz.:(

Edit: Yup stock cooler. I'm afraid of installing a third-party, so when I run the overvolted profile I crank up the fan a lot. :eek:
