6950 1gb Heatsink question

I've read somewhere that there is a certain chip that needs a heatsink when installing an aftermarket cooler (that isn't listed in the included instructions). And I believe it was in the upper left corner (I've circled it in my picture) Is this the chip I need to add a heatsink to?

Or am I going crazy and remembering things that just aren't true? Lol

what heatsink are you using ? I don't know about others, but the gelid solutions one comes with enough heatsinks to cover that chip, whether or not it needs one.

Is that an XFX 1gb card as well ?

I just ordered that same xfx 6950 1gb. And I am going to install the artic cooling twin turbo on it. Is that the same cooler you ordered? If so how did it go?
