How come people still buy, talk about this card the 6870, shouldn't people be talking about the 6970 and greater. What is with the 6870 card?
 
ITs a great card I bought one earlier this year and was using a 4870 before that... x870 anything is win in my book.

It's from the same generation as the other AMD 6xxx series cards, just below the performance tier of the 6900 videocards. If you don't happen to need the full power of a top end card, either due to the games you play, or the resolution you game at, then it makes more sense to save about 100 bucks to get the 6870. That savings can be put towards ssd/cpu/ram upgrades or new games that will have a greater benefit than just getting a faster videocard.
 
Mine has treated me very well this past year. Although I may upgrade to a 7XXX card if the price is right.
 
i have 2 6870's but i got them before the 6970's were out.

ill prob hold onto them until next fall.
 
6870 is a very good bang for the buck card. Also it is a good fit for people with average resolutions (1680x1050 or 1080p). It is also very power efficient. Most PC games these days do not really push the hardware except at ultra settings. All of these factors mean the 6870 is still a good card.
 
My crossfired 6870s still work great. I only had to turn down my settings in Battlefied 3 from Ultra to High because I was exceeding the 1GB vram limit. In ultra I'd get about 60 seconds of smooth framerates, in high, those smooth framerates last the whole match:p

I get between 45 - 60fps in Metro 2033 in full settings with AA disabled.

With the not so hefty games, even 1 card handles them nicely at full settings.
 
I've been playing BF3 almost exclusively on my LAN box with it's pair of 6870's. It does 1920x1200 with deferred AA turned off without any problems.
 
I like my 6870. Picked it up for $170 in January to replace my 5750. It runs most things pretty well.
 
i to have a 6870 paired with my i5 2500k happy with it but was thinking about getting a 2nd one for bf3. would that be able to run it at ultra at 1920x1200 smoothly?
