6870 and blu ray

the 6870 plays games okay, but when it comes to blu ray, artifacts. In the last 2 days, i got a new msi 6870 frozr, and asus 6870 direct cu, both produced artifacts in blu ray, with different combinations of drivers and hardware, monitors..i believe its in the 6870 chipset that is causing this problem

i today got rid of both cards and got the msi 6950 frozr II, It plays blu ray nicely

thought i would pass on my experience with the 6870...sad, i liked the price, and the performace is great, but for blu ray, look eleswhere
 
Never heard of this before - probably a hardware acceleration conflict. Running GPU-accelerated flash at the same time as GPU-accelerated video often causes problems. I never bother with hardware acceleration for anything as modern CPUs are fast enough not to need it.
 
This has nothing to do with the 6870 GPU. My 6870 plays Blu-ray just fine, no artifacts. Even the lowest model ATI cards will play Blu-ray just fine.
 
my 4850 played blu ray, the 6870,s would, but with artifacts....i tryed to set the acceration in the video part of the software, but it was disabled.....

i bought a 6950, and it worked nicely;.....just complexed why the 6870,s would not.......is there something the 6950 has that the 6870,s does not??? i read somewhere that the 6870s were limited to supported acceration software,. just wonder if that was the problem
 
Nope, you just had some weird bad luck. It happens.

BTW the 6870 supports hardware acceleration.
 
i am just wondering if the 7.3 cyberlink software affected the 6870,s....i actually tryed the 2 cards on another computer with different monitor,...the only thing that was existing between the 2 computers was the software , it was used on both...
 
No idea man, but the 6870 is just a cut down 6970 or 6950 meaning less shaders. No reason why it wouldn't perform the same for Blu-ray playback.
 
Like everyone else here has said that card is more than capable of smooth blu ray playback. You had some other issue going on that replacing the GPU just happened to fix the issue. Could have been some kind of driver/codec conflict of some sort.

i agree with the codec, , software....each computer would play it, only with the same results..the differnt computer surely would eliminate hardware..software for sure....

but why does the 6950 play blu ray okay...its odd
