Which one would you use.

I don't use Win7/Vista. Plain XP64, I have no desire to upgrade. I only play few games BFBC2 and DDO. I have 800w PSU I currently have a Quadro Card that is old and I want to replace. (Houdini)

*I BSOD with flash in firefox I think its the Vid card drivers.

I have both cards.
 
It's a no brainer to take the 6850, unless the 465 unlocks into a 470. Even then it's not worth the extra heat/power you get with the 465.
 
I choose Nvidia im tired as shit of AMD drivers. Im going back to Nvidia at tax time.

Also what PSU do you have & what is your Budget

Yeah, 6850 unless you can get the 465 for something stupid like $120.
 
IMO, get the 5850. It's faster than both cards by about 10% and is roughly the same price.
 
I already have the cards, I just am dreading the pull of my quadro removing drivers etc..

The cheapest 6850 on Newegg is $159 right now. The cheapest 5850 is just $10 more but also comes with a $15 Newegg gift card, so in the end, the 5850 may be cheaper.

Are you going to return one of the cards or sell it? If you're returning then definitely keep the 6850 and return the GTX 465. But if you're selling, you may be able to get much more for the 6850.

I used pricewatch to check the 5850 which had them at $199 as the lowest, so yes I made a mistake not checking newegg. Brain fart on my behalf. :(
 
Overclocked 465 will walk all over 6850. But if heat and/or power is your concern , take a 6850.
 
One card is going in a family puter and one in mine. Since power is the issue here I think I'll stick gtx465 in mine and the 6850 in family one.
 
Performance-wise, the 6850 is 2% faster at 16x10, 5% faster at 19x12, and 8% faster at 25x16.

Realistically, if you get one cheaper than the other, go with it. (I guess that would mean selling off whichever one is worth more :p )
Or if you have a driver/brand preference, then go with that.
 
All 465s have the possiblity of unlocking shaders to 448 which gives around 10% more performance. If you get a nice overclock out of an unlocked 465, especially on the memory side, it would probably beat a 6850.

With that said the 6850 is a much better overall package. Uses half the power, nearly silent in the reference designs that have the fan in the middle, HDMI 1.4, bitstreaming audio, being slightly faster at stock and very similar in performance overclocked.

IMO the 6850 is "better" than the reference 465. If you get a good 465 like the Twin Frozr, that's very much open to discussion.

EDIT: Since you already own both, the other aspect is getting money for either. If you don't mind the noise, thermals, and lack of HTPC features on the 465 then I would suggest keeping it, and selling the 6850 for more coin.

Assume Nvidia and ATI have the same quality drivers.
Therefore, if more people are buying ATI cards, then there will be more reports of ATI driver issues.

You obviously never owned neither cards. Sure at stock speeds 6850 is about 5% to 8% faster than 465 but the thing about GTX465, it's horribly underclocked. Mine can go all the way up to 865Mhz on a core with voltage soft mod, and all the way to 810 with little tweaking in MSI Afterburner. At this speeds you pretty much have a GTX470 (if not faster) without unlocking any shaders. There are numerous reviews of GTX465 so you can see for yourself what it can do when it's underclocked.

And no, I'm not a Nvidia fan boy, this is my second green card (first was FX5200) out of all the ATI cards I owned (about 12)
 
If that 465 unlocks to 470 with oc it will stomp both 6850 and 5850 into ground.
 
Except you can overclock a 6850 as well, which makes it even, if not back in favour of the 6850.

No where near as much as GTX465 my friend. You can get healthy 200MHz+ out of every GTX465 out there and 250Mhz+ with a voltage soft mod.

I switched to Nvidia only because I wanted to Fold and I can tell you straight up ive had more trouble with the Nvidia drivers than I ever did with AMD with my 5870s..
 
My Quadro Drivers aren't that good. Causes BSOD with flash in firefox. I have both manufacturers and in my experience I found AMD drivers better then Nvidia.

I'm glad someone's posted this. ATI get a bad rap for their drivers, not undeservedly, but nvidia's are far from perfect either. While I wouldn't go as far as to say they're worse, saying driver issues don't exist on the other side are simply false.
 
There is couple aps that I use don't work to well with Vista or 7. I can't really afford to buy these programs and they are very unique. Plus xp64 does everything I need it to do. I have laptop with win7.

Oh and the GTX465 is a black PCB which might unlock to a 470 not sure if I want to tho.

Never mind. I'll summarize with this: The GTX 465 is more biased toward the performance side. The 6850 is a much better balance of thermals, HTPC, and performance.
