5760x1200, will 2 6850 be enough to get me the same FPS I had with just 1 @ 1920x1200? or close? (same settings, of course - except resolution)

doubt it. if you were going 1920x1200 to 2560x1600 then maybe..

if you already own a 6850 this might be the perfect time to sell it off and take a look at the 6950's that can be unlocked to 6970's. a single one of those will be a better option due to the higher vram.

right which you just answered your original question..

2GB of vram is far better then 1 GB when it comes to eyefinity adding a second 6850 doesnt add another GB of vram

What about my third post?

.. Do you know any eyefinity benchmark charts I can .. trust?

I would look into two 6870s at the very least but I really think the 2gigs of ram on the 6950 would be a worth while upgrade if you can afford it.

Also you may not need to run the same fsaa levels as you would on lower resolutions.

If you take a look

2gigs of ram is really helping the 69x0s are kicking the crud out of the 6870s in crossfire. I guess it depends on how long you want to keep the video cards for. I would assume over the next year or two the need for more than 1gig of vram will be needed.

I can afford a single 6950, and unlock it, but not two.

I just want to know what to expect out of it, first. Like, will my FPS with that @ 5760x1200 be equal to my GTX 460 @ 1920x1200? or close ..I'd love to see a (reliable) chart, if one exists...

I have 110fps in BC2 at average.
5760x1080.
However, I play at lowest settings due to me wanting to max out fps.
6850 crossfire OC to 940/1140mhz.

You will run into ram limits with eyefunity, if you want AA for example, 4XAA at 5760x1080, well do the math, it just wont go well with 1gb ram buffer.
However, if your willing to sacrifice some settings, then eyefunity is a lot of fun.

I tried BC2 with 6950x2, but as soon I upped my settings the flow of events slowed down to much for me.
sure it was still smooth but I am highly sensitive to slow downs.
eyefunity/widescreen is fun but also demanding, and not for budget if you want to have a lot of fps.
I dont have a budget machine, 4ghz i7 950 due to me want to have good solid especially min fps.

In single games, it might work to have your desired settings with a playable framerate, I play multiplayer, which require fast eyes and reflexes.

Do you think you can get med/high settings with 45fps average and AA / AF off? :)

Thanks for the reply, by the way !

Check out what I found..

Your asking if a 6950 unlocked to 6970 speeds will be 3 times faster than the gtx 460. What do you think ? The 6950 isn't even double the price of the gtx 460.

I think your asking way to much out of a single video card. Even two 6970s wont be 3 times faster than the gtx 460.

You can get good performance. I'm playing alot of games with the radeon 5850 and it works very well for its price. I don't use fsaa or on some games mlaa or 2x fsaa , but it works as well as can be expected

No, I'm asking how significant 3x resolution is. According to the chart above, 3x res is only 2x the workload, more or less. If it's correct, I'm good.

I am sure some things the GPU processes before you're "looking" at them (resolution), like the entire ground texture. Otherwise, you'd have terrible delay when you turned.

So, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it can't be 3x the workload.

94 to 58 in FEAR.
76 to 42 in DIRT 2.

Less than 1/2 the difference.

Depends on the game, though. Stalker Pripyat,
50 -> 17.
Just Cause 2,
65-30 (about half).

I learned from a gent in egg chat that it isn't actually tripling the FOV, it's stretching the image. Thus, fewer polys to draw (in a sense, not REALLY triple the resolution.) That would account for most of the reason the FPS doesn't drop 2/3, but less than 1/2. (depending on the game.)

You're awesome, rUmX.

icor1031, when I said that Eyefinity cannot be compared 58xx vs 6xxx is because of 2 things:

- The display ports now support the 1.2 spec which allows daisy chaining. (ie: you can do 5x1 EF on just 2 DP ports, but it requires a hub...)
- Crossfire scaling is awesome sauce now. With 58xx CF+EF was broken (unless you had a 5970, but even then it was still broken). It's much, much better now.

You have a good point, and in a way that's true, partly because most of the things going on will be in front of you.

Are you thinking of 6850 CF vs 1 of 6950/6970?

Not sure. I have a month to decide. :)
2x 6850 will give me more FPS now, but 1x 6950 will give me the ability to upgrade more later, when prices come down. (I only have 2 slots I'm willing to use for GPU.) However, if AMD makes it so you can't unlock the 6950's, I likely won't do that.

So, probably 6850.
