6850 2D window mode issues

I play the game RIFT on ultra settings just fine when in window mode while doing certain thing s in a browser and the clocks stay where they are. When I do certain things like say Hulu, Netflix, Youtube, etc... the clocks clock down to 2D mode. Which then of course the game becomes unplayable. Was curious if anyone has a fix.

I have 2 LCD's and the game plays at Full Screen with window mode so then I don't have to tab out of game. I prefer to play all games like this as long as their full screen support is decent and doesn't actually show bars on top. Basically I want to either have ATI realize that I'm playing a game or just disable 2D clocks all together. This is my gaming machine, when it is turned on I am playing a game.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit with latest drivers and a fresh install of windows with just 2 games installed. Rift and Starcraft II

Disable "Hardware Acceleration" in flash. Go to a youtube video and right-click it and click "settings".

Will try when I get home, but Netflix uses Silverlight so don't think this will really fix my issue 100% It's weird too because it doesn't always do it, but if I alt tab enough then my GPU thinks I'm not playing a game and then will do 2d clocks even thought the GPU usage is very high

Can you tell me exactly what clocks you're seeing (and what you're doing at the time), and either send me a dump of your video BIOS or link me to your exact card from here?

I'll give you more info when I get home, will be like 5 hours from now, but 2d clocks are 300/1000? I think. I did OC the card some, but it was doing before I OC'd the card as well. The GPU is an XFX based GPU, the other alternative that I'm thinking about doing is just running ATI Tool and I'm pretty sure that has an option to just clock up the 2d clock rates which would then fix my issue. I just didn't feel like doing it at first and was hoping there was an easier fix without 3rd party software.

Yeah, I'd like to see a dump of that video BIOS, an HD 6000 series card should not be getting stuck at 300/1000... especially since 2D idle is either 100/300 (singlel monitor) or 600/1000 (multiple monitors) on a normal 6850. UVD Mode is 300/1000, but it should scale to 775/1000 when 3D is requested.

You can do a dump pretty easily using Radeon BIOS Editor and ATi WinFlash

1. Open Radeon BIOS Editor.
2. Click the "Acquire/flash" button at the bottom of the window.
3. Click "Browse" on the new window, point it at ATi WinFlash.
4. Click "Analyze"
5. Click "Acquire BIOS"
6. The window will close and dump you back to Radeon BIOS Editor with your BIOS loaded in it.
7. Click "Save BIOS" and then upload the file somewhere.

300/1000 is UVD mode in that BIOS, which should only be active when using hardware acceleration to decode video. If you're seeing that speed while just sitting at your desktop, something has gone loopy in the driver...

I've had the same issue(s) and I try and make sure I disable any hardware acceleration. Like flash, media player(s), and web browser(s). Do you watch any H.264 encoded videos also?

so was watching netflix all day yesterday + hulu and it never happened. I installed ATI tray tools, but it was some how messing with Rift and would cause the ATI display driver to stop working so I uninstalled it. It's weird how the problem doesn't always happen and then at times it constantly happens and closing/reopening the browser doesn't work all the time either. I think I'll just live with it.
