680i C2Q FSB Wall

Did yuo guys consider that this issue could be a result of the XFX boards being the same ones that the EVGA 680i AR boards were that limited the Quadcore overclocks? Has XFX released a revision board?

Yes it's called A+ and is equivalent to the EVGA A1.

On my 122-CK-NF68-AR my Core 2 Quad Q6600 would post as high as 1300MHz FSB. At anything higher than that it wouldn't boot.

What are you shooting for Dan? I'm tempted to take apart my old watercooled P160 and re-fit my new rig with the h2o. It's clear that the overclocking of this cpu is bound by temperature.

Well I'll be happy with 3.2GHz. I'd like to see 3.4GHz if possible. I'd be seriously surprised if I could get it any higher.

Was it thermal throttling that you disabled? Thats what I would have mentioned.

The option I Disabled was
C1E Enhanced Halt State.

The description reads pretty much what it does for the Intel Speedstep. States it'll conserve power by reducing it.

Disabled that and it now keeps steady at my goal. I still have yet to over clock.. sort of.

I still have the FSB linked with the Memory, so before I do any over clocking I will be sure to unlink that, and then bump it slowly.

I am using a Gigabyte Heatsink thinking a Zalman wouldn't fit in here, however with the way it's aligned I believe a Zalman 9700 would fit quite well. I have not gone in to any water cooling, but maybe in the future.

I have 2x 120 mm Rosewill fans, 1x 90mm PCI slot fan, and 2x 50mm case fans.

I need to get some HDD cooling, and possibly look into a drive bay fan, if I want to stick with fan cooling.

Anyway, all goes well so far, nothing has exploded! I've been toying with 3D Studio Max a little as well as a few other multi threaded apps (nero, pinnacle studio 11) seeing the increase over my old Dual Core.

And the GTL settings on the 680i boards.
