Yeah, so I am in the process of building my first pc, and have yet to decide on a vid card. Originally I was thinking 9800 PRO, but after a few friends went with new Nvidias, I have to say that they look much more enticing. That is when I decided to go with a 6600GT, but as of tonight I realized or debated about going with a 6800NU. What are your thoughts? I can get one for $240 by the way. Any good things to say?

i had one and it was pretty kool, the low ram slowed it down but still a nice card. i took mine back tho cause it over heated and bought an x800pro. i like ati better

Definately get it for $240. Nothing better out there right now for the price. its considerably quicker than the ATI cards in the price range, and if you're lucky, u can unlock it and overclock it :D

Definetly worth it for $240, I got mine for $280 and it was worth it.

I have a 6800NU and I can't say enough good things about it.
Great Card for the Price. Sure the Memory may be less than the GT/Ultra's but meh. It runs everything on HIGH with AA and AF on if you want. You might suffer a little in FPS, but, to each his own, and to each system its own. You can also unlock the hidden pipes (get the full 16) which almost puts it on par with a GT. Most 6800's have unlocked the pipes successfully and its not hard to do. After that you can OC it a bit to match the mem frequencies of a GT. Though the Memory will never be as good as the GT/Ultra.
But! You are also spending 150-200 dollars less and getting damn near same quality performance out of it.
Buy it! :D

I think you have all sold me. I am not a HUGE performance freak, I mean I enjoy my video games as much as the other guy, but I don't require ULTRA settings on everything, maybe between Medium and High. How is EVGA though? I haven't heard much from them, but many good things about BFG.

evga is solid performer in my book. I ordered a 6800gt from microcenter (backordered, but they confirmed they'll honor the price). evga uses the nvidia reference design, so its nothing special, no custom bells or whistles. Its one of those things that you sorta install and forget about.

I'm coming from a ti4600 so a 6800nu will be friggin fantastic, the price on the gt was too much to pass on, considering I wont be able to afford a SLI system in the next year ;)

Seen a few people buy EVGA and they havent complained.

If you want one insane prize package with it get the MSI 6800Nu at Newegg for 295. Its what I bought. Tons of software and Tons of games.

I was looking at MSI, though I have ready many complaints about their cards, especially most of the DOA, I don't need that fancy software and games. Besides I got me some free Doom 3, Far Cry, UT2K4, and Hl2...I should be set for awhile ;)

Care to tell me :(
PM instead...

From everyhing I have heard and rad eVGA is a solid company. The good outwieghs the bad and most of the bad I read about them is user error.

grab that 6800 nu,for the $$$ it cannot be beat !! I love my 6800,and was able to unlock the pipes, but not the extra vertex engine,so I am at 5/16 HERE,but loving it still,as my 6800 nu has 1Ghz gddr3 ram on it,and 256 megs of it at that :)

Hahah, well I got most of the games through my brother. He is dating a girl that works for Computer Gaming World. So whenever they are usually done reviewing the games I usually get them. She is good friends with a few of the editors there so she gets some pretty good ones. I actually got 2 copies of HL2, one from her and the other by ordering a combo from Monarch.

Yeah I am thinking about just going and getting that, hopefully they have them in stock ;)

Got mine unlocked to 16/6 and OCed to 390/870. Pretty good upgrade over my old 9800 Pro. Got it when BestBuy had it packaged with HL2 and the $105 rebate and a $20 off coupon, so after selling HL2 and my 9800 Pro it was a very, very cheap upgrade. I'd definitely suggest it over the other options you specified.

got my PNY 6800nu at the comp usa black friday sale, it unlocked 16x1 6vp and oc's to 385/795 without a hitch.....6800's kick around 6600GT's...so far i believe Gainward is one of the best, but i do believe a little more expensive.

Got my eVGA at micro center for 239.99 plus tax and love it.. pipes unlocked and reached a max oc of 400/850 4,719 3dmark05. Runs HL2 and all my other games with out any problems at all. Just make sure you dont sure the drivers that come with it.. 71.22 worked well for me and picked up my performance a good amount over the 67.02.
