6800le = 6600gt ??

Someone in this forum had a 6800LE (8 pipe NV40) couldnt find thread to see his benchmarks, etc.

Since there havent been any benchmarks of a 6600GT yet (that I've seen, at least) I assume it would be pretty much equivalent to a 6800LE. Since they're both based on the same gen tech, with the same number of pipes. Though I think the 6600GT's core will be clocked higher (smaller die, etc)

Do you think the 6800LE is just the experimental cards for trying to design and test the performance of what a 6600GT would be and Nv doesnt want to release a card to retail like ATI's first 9500's. So they're just selling them as an OEM product only until the 6600Gt's hit the market & then they will probably disappear. Like the first 9500's were just 9700's with the pipes turned off and were easily modded in to a full 9700, until they did a total redesigned core/pcb for the later 9500Pro's.

Any thoughts on this? Or more benchmarks
 
6800 le is the same core as the 6800 ultra with 8 of its pipelines shut off and clocked lower. The 6600 gt is a different chip with a 128 bit interface. They should be fairly close in performance, at least thats what has been said. But I don't see how a 128bit card can match a 256 bit card.
 
6800LE is a good deal better than the 6600GT since the 6800LE has a 256bit memory interface.

Too hard to say, who knows it might be its clocked a hell of lot higher then the 6800 le.
 
Oh I didnt realize the 6600GT only has a 128 bit mem interface!

Its going to be clocked high so maybe that makes up some of the difference

plus 8 pipes on 128 vs 256 is probably a smaller difference since it was designed for 16 pipes on 256bit, cut the pipes in half and the mem in half is ok.

Like the 5800U (higher clock/128bit mem) did ok compared to a 5900U(256bit mem) comparing the 2

Well teh clocks for the 5800u and 5900u are similiar and the 5900u definitly crushed the 5800u
 
yea, the reason the 5800U sucked so much was becauce of the 128 bit memory interface.
and it was still clocked very high.

5800U = 500/1000 128bit
5900U = 450/850 256bit

and while the 5900U is obviously better. It didnt own it. And in a few cases the 5800U could win some benchmarks b/c of its higher clock

It depends on where ya look at it, the 128 bit interface on the 5800 gets hurt in most high end games which require more bandwidth special when aa and af on. Other then that thier processing power is pretty much the same. Same chip just more bandwidth for the the 5900
