6800GT vs. 9800XT

Anyone seen any reviews that compare these 2 in UT2004 and FarCry at 1600x1200?

I just found out that XFX will have a dual DVI 6800GT...and if its performance is >= 9800XT, I'd be interested.

(in the mean time, I'll be swearing at ATI et al for not releasing a dual DVI AGP card in their new line)

ofcourse its better than a 9800XT.. people are raving that the card is better than an X800 Pro

Here are some benchmarks showing the 6800GT as fast as or faster than the X800PRO (which is much faster than the 9800XT) in UT and FarCry. Once the v1.2 SM3.0 patch for FarCry comes out, its possible the gap will widen.

Yea thats not even a fair comparison, and comparing it to the x800pro isn't even fair really. Should go up against the x800XT to get a better comparison.

It obviously should smash the 9800XT with out a doubt.

Why should it go up against the x800XT? Both the X800PRO and 6800GT are the same price ($399), so they should be head to head.

The 6800GT is supposed to be the slower version of the 6800 Ultra.

The 6800 GT should go up against the PCI E x800XT clocked at 500/500 really. The 6800 GT should outperform the X800 PRO at high res really.

At high resolutions of 1600x1200 its not going to be any competition for the 6800 GT and the new nVidia drivers. The X800Pro performs very well at 1024x768 and other lower resolutions. Sometimes as good as the 6800 ultra. But nVidia is king of bandwidth and rules over high resolution gameplay :p.

And 6800U should be compared to X900XT and a half. Oh wait, that doesn't exist yet. It's funny how people try to compare different range cards.

once again you are looking at benches with NO IQ turned on duh...

once it gets to midrange AA/AF the X800 pro is second only to the ULTRA

read it before you post

and they dont even test at highest settings

i run Far cry @ 1280 max settings in game and AA/AF high as it will go just FINE

Now M4d-K10wN. PCI E X800XT 500/500 is clocked lower than the X800XT PE but it´s a 16 pipeline video card as well as the GT and thus the X800XT PE competes in price and performance with the 6800 ULTRA of course the PCI E X800XT is aimed at the 6800 GT. If ATI thought the X800 PRO was enough to compete against it they wouldn´t release it.

All these cards are announced and will be released in a near future.

2048x1536 with 4x AA/8x AF not good enough for you? :) My statement stands.

Note these benchmarks do not take into account the SM3.0 patch, which may increase 6800 performance even more.

Xbitlabs testing has the X800 pro beating out the ULTRA by a slight margin in UT2004 and by quite a bit in Far Cry at higher resolutions with 4xaa and 8xaf....

They also have the most games tested of any site I've seen so far. Of course mileage for everyone will vary based on CPU, RAM, and things like the drivers used.

Really I think the GT hardware and the x800 Pro hardware are fairly evenly matched in terms of raw power, and each one will win at different times depending on the game and the afformentioned factors.

What leads me to favor the x800pro is that it seems to do better when ps 2.0, AA, and AF are all used at the same time. To me that indicates a more "future friendly" card.

Those benchmarks are outdated. The 61.34 drivers gave the 6800 series a massive performance boost (like 50% in Far Cry).

Here is another new review using the Nvidia 61.34 drivers
http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/article.php?cat=grfx&id=315&pagenumber=4

6800U leads the x800 pro by 25-30% at high res/aa/af. The 6800GT won't be far behind the 6800U either, since its a 16x1 card also.

"While the 6800 Ultra posts a noticeable 8% difference over the x800 at 1024x768 resolution, we really see it shining at 1600x1200 resolution with differences ranging between 22% to 36%. The card is almost twice as fast as nVidia's previous generation 5900 Ultra- you can see a 90% difference at 1600x1200 with 4X AA. We did not find any problems with Far Cry using the 61.34 drivers- some of the older drivers had problems which seem to have been fixed."

Over at Beyond3D, there are rumours that the 61.5x drivers are supposed to be the real killer ones. Can't wait.
