BFG 6800GT OC stock settings

should i exchange my unit?

Counter strike Source and Farcry crash sometimes at 1920x1200
monitor just shuts off, like it has no signal.
If i press restart on computer, monitor still doesnt get signal
till i press power on/off on computer

That is hands down the highest temp I have seen on any 6800. If this is for real you have some serious problems. It looks like you have a very high ambient temp and a NV5 would help your temps ALOT.

geez, yea, your temps are definately on the high side. if you continously run it at those temps, your card may die soon. do you have a PCI card right below your 6800GT? you might want to get one of those PCI blowers and place it below the 6800 GT, or place an intake fan on the side of your comp case.

i got high but it craped out at 105 >.< ill have to get screencap

this is the same prob im haveing i think its do to my high room temp during the day
i live in So. Cal and have no AC >.< get VERY hot i have to clock back my GT till it gets cooler at night

i too live in So. Cal, my load temps are 74C right now... Idle is 60C. Never it ever went that high. I also don't have an AC. My bedroom window is facing towards the west so the sun sets and imagine the heat around 2-3PM. Once it went to 86C but that is the highest. Good thing it's cooling down right now especially summer is almost over.

ultra has better cooling then GT plus that at 400/1.1 on the GT soo

Remove side panel and setup a floor fan to blow directly into ur box. It will increase airflow, removing heat faster.... I had to do this, my CPU was shutting down due to overheating due to all the hot air that 6800gt dumps into my case :(

yup thats what im doing im going to get NV silencer soon soo :D

whoa dood that temp will kill ur gpu in no time.... what kind of cooling do you have in your case??

ambient temperature - 70C?!?!??!!!

obviously 100C is diriculous, but man o man. I don't wanna live in your house.

memo: don't play your computer whilst it is in the oven.

If it is detecting your ambient at 70C, it's more than likely that the temp probe is not giving you an accurate reading. Think about it...ambient of 70C...you would be dead.

I wouldn't be too sure about the 70C ambient being wrong. Remember that's the temp around the card measured by the card and if the GPU is putting off 100C....

Mine was doing the same thing until I improved the airflow to the card. Tested the theory by opening the side door on the case and putting a deskfan set to high blowing right onto it. Helped a lot so Step 2 was to put a blowhole in the case door (92mm as that's the spare fan I had on hand) blowing directly into the space around the card (mostly below). She's much happier now running 49C idle and 64C under load. I do have a Leadtek with that massive hunk of copper strapped to it, so the NV Silencer might be in order as well. Check the airflow first. If the card can't breath, it won't matter what kind of heatsink you strap to it.

It idles at
GPU 68C
Ambiant 46C

I have 2 80mm case fans that came with m y apsire turbo xdreamer 2 case. but rerouted the one on top to the back above pci slots.

i just bought a 120mm alu ball bearing fan, will put that in back right now, and see how it goes.

Shit man, your card is hot.. I'd RMA it myself.. you dont really wanna be playing around with the heatsink and fan, would mess your warranty up. I would RMA and see if the second one is any better. (Which chances are it will be)

Could someone who has the average joe cooling in their case tell me what the idle and load temps should be?

RTHDRIBL is notorious for heating up video cards. My eVGA 6800 GT got up to 94C with it. (Room temperature was 24C.) Idle was usually around 65.

I changed the heatsink out for a copper one, and the temp stays around 84C now under load, while my idle is a constant 60. I would imagine a silencer is even better.

(For reference, the case is an Antec 1030, with a True430 PSU and 3 80mm fans.)

i was getting high temps like that also. all i did was remove the PCI clot cover thats under the videocard and that dropped my temps by about 5-7 degrees C. might want to try this. worked for me and some other people that i suggested it to. and a fan blowing on the card would help also. and id recommend getting the NV silencer 5 too. cuz damn boy thats some hot card temps there.

From what I have read up on 6800gts (not ultras), they usually hit 60c on idle and 80c under load. Mine is 60c idle and 85c load with room temp about 80F (25c), but right now it's much cooler.

Hell, I just modded my NV5 Silencer with a 80mm fan and mannaged to drop the load temps while playing Doom3 from 79c to 64c max after playing the game 30 minutes to 1 hour nonstop, it doesn't matter how long I play I can't get the temp to higher than 64c, my idle temp dropped from 61c to 54c as well. I thought it would be too noisy but it's not loud at all and at least now I can play any game knowing mt 6800GT will aty nice and cool. I put my Dremel to good use for 30 minutes and it paid off, now I really feel the hot air being blown from my video card out of the case, the crappy fan they use on the NV5 Silencer sucks big time and does not move any air at all and this is why I cut the damm thing out of the NV5 assembly.

Right now my card is running 52 core 32 ambiant...It's a eVGA, I don't know what yours is, though you might have said and I probally wasn't paying attention, but thats what my temps are.

BTW, this all happend when my upstairs A/C broke upstairs.

Ok like downstairs its set at 73.. actual temp according to console = 73 degrees F

upstairs set at 69..... actual temp according to console = 84 degree F

Could that cause that much of an increase though?

100C is 212F

I don't know about this, at other forums I am usually able to upload pics directly from my PC to the post on the forum and all you do is browse to the folder, here Kyle makes it kinda hard for those of us that don't write HTML like he does.
