I'm getting tired of waiting to upgrade to an nforce4 board with an x800XL.. tireeeed of waiting. So I was thinking about blowing more money than I ever thought i'd blow away.. I was thinking aboutu dual 6800GT's with an Asus A8N Delux SLI and a A64 s939 3200 or 3500 winchester. Being that those procs seem the best for the price ;\ hehe. But... i'd imagine that there'd almost be no point in me getting two 6800GT's in SLI if the proc is gonna bottleneck me that bad... like.. bad enough to make it so its only a single 6800GT's preformance.... except... maybe... that i'd be ready to upgrade in the future simply by buying a new proc... what are your thoughts?

BTW I have this money to blow right now... it won't be available in the future, so it can wait like a month at the most...

That's the beauty of SLI, u don't have to buy both cards now, just buy one and add another one later when the games will require increased graphix power :D

adlskjflaskdjf. $500 for a PCIe 6800GT ?... x800 XL ... $300 when it comes out... hrrrrmmm.... They will be pretty much the same... cept ... $200 cheaper.. and the x800XL will probably have better FSAA.. .and AF. and opengl 2.0... . . . . the waiting game... i hate it ... you know anywhere where I can find a decently priced 6800GT PCIe thats made by a decent manufacturer.. and been reviewed?

yea . I was searching other forums and found that card on that site and noticed it was out of stock... damnit damnit sob... well.. what now.... .. . . . . . .. . DAMNIT.... make the board available. and sell it.. people will buy it... i wish it were that simple. grrrr.. what now .. what... now...

x800xl has a much better price and it runs neck and neck with a gt, its definetly worth the wait expecially if ure an ati fan like myself

....what's the sense in buying an SLi motherboard if you are not getting an SLi video card?

thats kind of the issue. Wait for x800XL and get an nforce4 mobo thats not sli... save a good bit of money... or.. try and find a 6800GT PCIe and possibly put that sob in SLI.. butttt. would that being in SLI just be massivly bottlenecked by a 3500+ winchester .. then perform like .. having 1 6800GT .. ya know..

orrrrr go with the asus SLI mobo and just get one 6800GT PCIe and maybe get another some other time... ;\. of course those cards aren't available either atm so omgwtfbbq... what should i do. i hate the waiting game. money.. burning... buurrrning

no single proc in existence for the consumer will not be a bottleneck, even the fx55 would limit the power of the dual 6800gts. i say the 57 should be a big diffrence tho

I know they all bottleneck dual 6800gt's. But would they bottleneck so much on a 3500+ Winchester that the gain in performance by SLI would be very very small.

Hrrmm can you put plain ol 6800's non Ultra/Gt in SLI? And would that be an option I should consider?

why dont you try to find a used 6800gts, buy it. enjoy 1600x1200 with all the eyes candies maxed out, and THEN , when uengine 3 comes out, buy another one for cheap?

Question: Do you over clock?

Because if you do then you can easily get the cpu up to like 4000+ status and be pretty straight.

Nice. Yea I will OC a bit. Air cooling only. Case has 120mm up front . 120mm in back. 90mm on the side. I plan on getting an XP-90 possibly the xp-120 from thermalright an a 92mm panaflo high output for it. Not looking to OC a crapton. How high do you imagine I could possibly get that... Atm I have 2x512 Muskin PC 3200 Cas 2-3-2 and a Fortron Source 530w.

Hrrmm. being that the 6800 PCIe non GT/Ultra is available and SLI ready. I might as well stop waiting and just get two of them... What do you think?

>> erm i could get the 3500+ Winchester / Asus A8N SLI Delux and the 6800 all from zipzoomfly ..

What do you think?

As someone already pointed out, any CPU will bottleneck a 6800GT-SLI rig. Therefore, the difference between a midrange 3500+ and top-of-the-line 4000+ (FX-55 isn't that much better than FX-53, so 53 is still TotL) is miniscule at best, especially since you've already said you'll be overclocking.

That 3500+ from ZipZoomFly is a Newcastle not a Winchester BTW, but still not a bad deal.

I think I may have just decided i'll get an A64 3500+ s939 Winchester / Thermalright XP-90 / Asus A8N Delux SLI / possibly two of those MSI 6800 PCIe's.. oh and a WD Raptor 74gb SATA and a Seagate 160 or 200gb SATA drive. Trying to find the better deals. Any objections to this setup?

Edit: Looks like I can get everything except the Processor and the HSF from zipzoomfly.

pssshhh.. blow all your money on sli 6800gt's.... that thing will kill any x800xl... but anywyas... one GT is already faster than one XL... even with AA and AF and highest res... the GT is the better card.. (excluding HL2, which even the pro is faster than my dear old 6800ultra).

oh well, I might as well just come out and say it.

ATI SUCKS! NVIDIA RULES! YEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAWW

In general the x800XL is about the same.. But ... $150 cheaper. Better AA / AF.... About the same in everything except Farcry. Slower in farcry faster in HL2. which do you think matters most.... Anyways. thats not the issue. Now its. find a 3500+ winchester for a decent price lol. since even they are not as available as they use to be.. use to be 275 ish retail . now its 325 oem at newegg lol. And I think i've already decided on two plain ol MSI 6800's in SLI... But i'm gonna read up on em a bit before I go off and make a retarded decision.

... the x800XL.... i can almost gurantee it is not gonna be no 150 bucks cheaper than the gt..... if the gt still sells for 400 when the XL comes.. the xl will be like 50 bucks cheaper.... i Don't think it's gonna be 250 for awhile......more like 300-350..

Well I read a bit about that MSI 6800 PCIe and other 6800 PCIe .. looks like i'll hold off on that lol. back to square 1.

im still wondering if the unreal 3 engine will be more for the NV or the ATI?
hmmmm

Just remember that PCIe 6800 vanillas are based on NV41, not NV45. That means that on the MSI, the video processor will be fully functional but softmodding is impossible.

Screw it. Looks like i'm just gonna wait for x800 XL and grab that and an MSI Neo4 Platinum .. . nforce4 Ultra .

that way i can save a huge chunk of money and hey. maybe upgrade to an R520 when the time comes ;)
