6800GT Question

I'm not sure which path I should take right now... I'm looking to get a 6800GT to replace my Radeon 9000...
Current System Specs:
P4 2.4C OC'd to 2.63
Abit IC7 MB
2x256 Corsair XMS3200
400W PS

Now here's my problem, my friend works at Best Buy and says that he can get me a BFG 6800GTOC for 350+tax, but he also knows a guy selling his EVGA 6800GT for 300 flat... So should I take the new BFG, or the used EVGA, or should I get the Leadtek 6800GT for 390...? I would like to OC the card, maybe even flash to the Ultra bios, but the waranty is most important to me... The BFG has a lifetime warranty right? Just looking for some input, thanks in advance...

I'd go with the new BFG card. They are about $320-330 at his discount price. So after tax, $350ish is about right.

The BFG card is a good one. Equal to the eVGA in every respect. The Leadtek card of course is probably a bit nicer in terms of bundle and stock cooling. But you can get an NV5 silencer to fix that problem.

best buy discount on the card is 310+tax, then you can mail the recipt to bfg for 5% i think under best buy cost making it like 275

Flashing the BIOS to Ultra will probably void any warranty anyway, as does OCing AFAIK.

Holy shit are you talking about 330 for a GT or a non ultra?

For a GT....right? With the worker's discount? Anyway, just wondering, what is better than the NV5 silencer or the cooling on the LeadTek? I am what is more effective, lets say...noise is not a factor?

Wow, I had no idea the discount would be so great... But one last thing I wanna check before I commit later this week, swapping out the stock cooling system for the NV5 won't void the warranty? And the BFG has a lifetime warranty, right?

yeah 310+tax for the gt out the door price then send a copy of the sale recipt and a paycheck stub to bfg for 5%(i think could be more) under what best buy paid for it making the card around 270 or 300 if you factor in tax, but you have to be a employeee and if your buying it for a friend you could get fired

How in the world would they find out your buying for a friend?

I work at a Comp USA and 6800GT's are $319.00 at our cost. However the 6800 Ultra is $487.00. WTF?!

That never made sense to me.

Normally they wouldn't. But Best Buy and Comp USA both will terminate you for the offense *IF* they ever found out. I know have worked at both, and it was made pretty clear to me.

It's one of those rules that if you are outright breaking it, you'll get nailed. But everyone does it anyway. Theres more deals like that BFG deal also. Intel and AMD both have one with the retailers, as do a few other companies.

Ok, well it looks like I wont be buying my card through Best Buy anymore... So I'm kinda back to square one... Should I get the BFG and swap coolers to the NV5? Or should I get a Leadtek and leave it be, since I've heard the stock cooling is pretty good for them... I think I will OC the card, and I probably will end up swapping out coolers for the NV5... So what card would you guys reccomend I get?

For the price of the BFG plus the silencer you could get the MSI board, which is said to be the best for quality and cooling performance.
