6800GT Problem

I just bought a eVGA 6800GT AGP and its performance really sucks. I am pretty sure what the problem is, but I just want to let people to hear my situation to get some input. When I run the Nalu demo from NVIDIA I get around 10-15 frames per second. My roommate has a 6800GT also and his card runs games sooooooo much better. I have put my brother-in-laws 6600GT in my computer and it out performs my 6800GT. This all seems very odd but then something finally dawned on me. My computer case was a cheap $45 case with a 500 Watt power supply. This problem has to be the power supply. That explains why the 6600GT ran better cause it used less power than the 6800GT. Plus my computer has a lot of hardware for a cheap power supply. Any input on my situation will be helpful. Thank You.

I ran 3DMark05 at the default settings. My roommate and I did a stress test in counter strike source. Me = 96 FPS Him = 161 FPS........ He only has 1 gig of RAM and an 3000+ (Both lower than mine) He is also using a shuttle PC. I dont have the money to buy a new power supply yet but its the only thing I can think of. :(
 
Get either an Antec or Enermax 400 Watt power supply (unless you want to try SLI some time)
and then overclock your 6800 GT to at least 400/1100.
65% of all 6800 GTs can run at 400/1100 24 hours a day for years.
 
i think ur right about the PSU. I don't see what else it could be and with a card like the 6800GT, it would make sense.

 
I know it sucks when you get something which starts a "need to upgrade" cycle... I think it also may be power... have you seen any messages from the video drivers about lack of power? That will sometimes happen... have you scanned your bios settings and set your AGP settings for "side band addressing", and make sure it's @ a full 8x and aperture size for 256? there is a sticky somewhere for all of this stuff.... maybe @ www.guru3d.com or here somewhere... there are bios settings which could enable a 6600 to run well but hold a 6800 back... you should check those.. if they are all good, then here's a great PSU for the budget minded... this is essentially an Aspire with "Glacier" written on it.. I have one powering 5x hard drives, 2x DVD drives, an OC'd XP2600 (to 2.2ghz, and a 6800GT @ 400/1100... it runs perfect...

That is a lot of components on a cheap power supply. Save some cash and get a decent one especially if you plan on running it at 400/1100.
 
Thank you for all of the replies and suggestions. One other thing... On the cheap power supply I am using it says this:

Total Max Power: 500W
+5V & +3.3V Total Current Power Can't Exceed 295W :confused:

What does this mean?
 
Are you by any chance running a TV or using dual monitors ? I was having a real SLOW Nalu demo before I turned off multiple monitor acceleration or something along those lines.
