Ok just bought a 6800gt oc from best buy. And I notice not 1 change in cs or lineage 2.. I get 60 fps with the dam thingon cs! I got 60 with my old mx440.... Please some1 tell me what is wrong ... I have 71.84beta drivers... Please any1 know what is wrong?

even still he shoudl see in improvement. Even if his specs arn't that good.

My guess is Vsync, if it's the same FPS as your last system, theres a good chance Vsync is on.

First...if your maxing at 60fps, try to disable vertical syncing.

second.

Did you play the MX at 640 with minimal settings, and the GT at 1280 and max settings?

Ok system specs are...
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz
1gig of ram
60gb hard- drive
Abit BH7 motherboard

My specs in counter-stike all stay at
1280 x 960 ..

BTW how do I turn off v-sync?

go into the nvidia control panel find performance and quality settings, and find vertical sync and disable it..and you did install the nvidia drivers right? lol

or in the game under advance Video options its near the bottom of the window..that should do it..youll see a big difforence

seeing how the MX is a direct X 7 i believe it would run good at 1280 and 60fps too..cause the eye candy isnt supported...

LOL... what do you need in CS?? CS maxes at 100 fps anyway with or without Vsync. Did you really expect a high end card to make a difference in CS?? A 6800 GT will not make a difference in a game that's 6 years old. Try a newer game perhaps.

i hope youre not talkin about cs:s cause older cards run it on dx7 and dx8 while newer cards like the 6800gt run on dx9 which does in fact look a lot better.

Lineage 2 with maxed graphics is a task.

Plus, why would anyone want more than 60 fps, and be willing sacrifice vsync for it?

Easy answer...it makes their e-penis feel all big and hard!

i dont even want to read this thread, but it sounds like someone bought a new videocard because vsync was on ROFL.

well it actually does make a noticable difference in CS between 60 and 100fps if you are a pro
gamer. (well not that i think he is 1 anyway  ) also other than vsync did u make sure that the frames is not limited to 60fps? because there is a setting in the game which can limits the fps and is on default (well i haven't play CS for like few years so it might not be it anymore.)

ok ..rob..question that i think everyone needs answering...what version of CS are you talking about...source?..or 1.6...cause if its 1.6 im out of here

I was playing 1.6 but now moving to source cause of cal moving over to it, but the main reason i got the 6800 gt was not cause of counter-strike... I got it for lineage 2 so I can max all my max settings.

well.. i've never played lineage 2... but I did upgrade from a TI4200 to a 6800GT OC.. BFG flavor... and I noticed a BIG difference... try other games... CS 1.6 you won't notice a difference.. anything above 60 fps.. is usually faster than the human eye can comprehend anyways... try doom 3 or HL:2 and then come back and tell us how the card performs.. :)

My change from a ti4600 to 6800gt was best described as "jaw on the floor, bewilderment, excitement" Games like eq2 and nfsu2 were night and day different. What shocked me the most was I could now turn up the resolution to 1600x1200 with eye candy on and no perceptable hit in performance (obviously there is a hit, but I was coming from a ti4600 trying to play those games @ 1280x1024).

Crank up that resolution and enjoy the new hardware.

Yeah, because a $200 3.0GHz cpu would have been a much better upgrade for CS source than the video card. Isn't Lineage 2 more ram instensive than video intensive? I've heard estimates of 1.5 gigs of ram to 2 gigs of ram in order to keep slow downs at a minimal...

I'd bet the CPU and/or RAM is the limiting factor. And CS 1.6 is not a great benchmark for modern video cards -- why not benchmark with Pong? :D

Maybe slap a nice heatsink on and get [H]ard on it or try some more RAM if RAM capacity is the limiting factor (not familiar with Lineage 2)

Another thing to do, if you don't have Half-Life 2 and don't want to buy it right now, is download the demo and run video performance tests with that. If leaving the graphical detail options the same but reducing resolution gives little to no performance improvement, then the bottleneck is probably not the video card (I doubt it is -- i get decent framerates with a 6600 GT which is 1/2 as fast)

try: "developer 1" my ultra gets me around 300 fps in cs.....

When the hell will people ever learn to stop spewing such BS? I'm tired of seeing this uninformed opinion come up again and again and again.

First of all, the human eye can certainly detect more than 60 FPS, but the perception of fluid motion is only part of the reason to seek a high FPS in games. The major factor is the precision and fluidity of interaction, in relation to using a mouse with a high sampling rate. I don't feel like giving a detailed explanation right now, but I guarantee that you'd notice a big difference if you played at 120 FPS for a week and then went back to 60 FPS.

*sigh*

No matter how many frames per second you have, it will only display as many frames as your monitor can draw! 100 fps @ 60 Hz = 60 fps ! If your FPS > Refresh Rate (such as 100 fps vs. 60 Hz), it will take 60 random frames from the 100 that it can produce and display it. Think about it people... how can a monitor at 60 Hz display 100 different frames in one second??!! Yeesh. That's why Vsync is in there.

well if you are running at 100fps most of the time, you can easily assume that the card will not slow down as much during graphics intensive scenes as a card that ran at 40fps most of the time.. thats why people like high fps.
