Has anyone tried replacing the cooling on this board with an nv5? Mine autodetects at 439/1170, but its developed a ratherannoyingly buzzy fan, plus its bloody loud to start with. Since i seem to have a particularly good card im a bit reluctant to get rid of it.

Basically what i want to know is how does the NV5 compare to the Gainward cooler thingy?
 
id like to know also i have been thinking of getting one for my leadtek with its all might air cooler that some how i got to 443/1.2ghz and ran through 3d mark 03 stable

edit: holy crap dude i wouldnt get the nv5 for that card it has the most bad ass cooler ive ever seen, just get better fans and put some AS5 under it and it should rock the soxs off the silencer
 
Have one of the GLH but no way am I yanking that cooler off and replacing it. Great card though......it does GLH :D
 
Thing is it would be very difficult i feel to mount any different kind of fans on it, high performance 40mm fans not being the most common thing ever. I am tempted to go the AS5 route though, pulling it apart then together again might fix the noise anyway if its just a loose screw. Certainly needs copper ramsinks though i think.

Anyone know where to get high performance 40mm fans from?

Edit: Found this delta at overclock.co.uk, might fit the bill, but its already bloody loud.
 
Not in the 'states.... GainwardUSA is not selling new cards in the 'states. They're going thru a "restructuring"

If you have one, I wouldnt part with it. I've been searching for months for a dealer who had them in stock before I called GainwardUSA on the phone and got the disappointing news.
 
Ohhh.....yeah.......I know what you mean.......I haven't been able to get ahold of another one either.....I got a GLH(2400) and a sweet single slot 2100 months ago and sadly i need one of the two again and haven't had much luck finding either one.

ive heard that cards fans run pretty insanly loud

what i would do is get 2 of those zalman 80mm fans (the insanly slim ones) and find a way to mount it over the coper heat sink (would probably have to take that big red piece of mettle thing to do so)
 
check out overclock.co.uk ive had stuff from them, excellent customer service, they might be able to sort you one out, would prob be as cheap to buy an Ultra though by the time youd payed the import duties. Id love to see what this card could do voltmodded and water cooled, but i canat, cos i dont have a water cooling rig, and good as the cooler is i dont think itd be up to a volt mod. The real killer card gainward do, or at least used to, was teh 6800 ultra golden sample, came with its own water cooling setup, was about 600 pounds though albeit insanely fast.

I might actually look into that, while im voiding the warranty i may as well go the whole hog, though i thing a slot cooler would prob work just as well, would have to find a replacement backplate though
 
If its the original reference design your metal fan shrould is thing and you may have tweaked it on install, just pull back the lip along the inside circumference of the shroud where the fan would hit. You wont notice spining the fan while its out assuming you have the fan pointed up since the fan drops quiet abit when you install it (assuming a conventional case and mobo) I had the same issue wth my Ultra and then it went silent once i backed one of the screws on the shroud out half turn or so and pulled up on the lip away from the fan blades.

I have a btx type of arrangement now so its no longer even an issue with the card and fan pointing up.
 
Basically then you reckon ive bent the big red metal bit? A possibility i hadnt though of. Did you have to remove yours to bend it? I assume so. Gonna wait till after the exams are finished and i can get my hands on some as5, do the whole lot at once. Will post temp differences when i get it all done. Im really really tempted to see if i cant fab a custom bracket for some 60 or 80 mm fans. Time to break out my meccano maybe.
 
Mine actually came bent , I called evga and they told me to calm down and explained that packaging the product could have done it since the shroud is so thin. Any way no i did not remove it. The entire fan assembly is mounted via the screws on the back , the screws i was referring to ar ethe tiny ones on top that hold the sheet metal cover or "shroud" on the assembly
Just back one or two out a half turn or so and then try to slightly bend up the lip and several spots along the inner circumference Turn the card upside down fan pointing to the ground and gently spin and see if its hitting if not your good to go
 
Thanks for the help, but The cooler on this card is distinctly non reference.
