6800gt doesnt seem right

something just doesnt add up with these 6800 gt's. maybe its just me and my paranoia but i dont know. here you have the 6800ultra thats really fast. then you have the 6800gt thats almost as fast BUT can be just as fast and sometimes even faster than the 6800ultra with a bit of overclocking. something seems a bit fishy to me about this whole thing. AND the gt's also have all 16 pipes open and useable too. almost seems too good to be true. but like i said...could just be paranoia.

It was Nvidias way to be to be on top. They knew they had to get the peformance crown again and they did the 16pipe card for 100 bucks less to compete with atis 12 pipe card for the same price. So you get a card that's similar to the ultra for 100 bucks cheaper. Why wouldn't you buy it? It's a pretty smart move but it doesn't justify the cost of the Ultra. That's just my opinion, take it as you wish.
 
Every generation has a card like this. Last gen it was the 9800pro (vs 9800xt) and the 5900xt (vs 5900U), before it was the ti 4200 (vs ti 4600). It is these cards with the best price/performance that draws people to upgrade.

The few with the extra cash will go for the Ultra, but for most of us the GT just makes more sense. Nvidia is smart to keep the Ultra, since otherwise we wouldn't be able to say that the GT can reach the speeds of the best card they make, would we?
