6800GT crap performance in D3?

I put a BFG 6800GT in a shuttle SN45G. I had a FX5200 in there before. So I'm thinking with the LCD it will be running on, 1280x1024 will be attainable with at least a steady 50 fps fairly easily. So I run driver cleaner, install the card, and install the 61.76 drivers. In the timedemo I get 30fps in 1280x1024 with high quality on. This is pretty unacceptable for ,just having dropped $420 on a new card. I have AA and AF set to app preference in the control panel so it's not that. My only guess is a format and clean install of XP is in order.

The rest of the specs in my shuttle are:
Mobile 2600+ at 2.3ghz, 512 geil ultra (2-3-3-6) in dual channel, 200w shuttle psu, XP sp1, DirectX 9.0b.

I get around 10500 in 3DMark03 as a side note.

Anyone with ideas/suggestions are appreciated. Helpful posts only please.

512megs of ram ram with HQ mode will hurt you. Also run the time demo more than once because the first time you run it you will be paging the Hard Drive alot. Also vsync will usually show a much lower framerate if you have it enabled (but also a much more realistic number)

This is the 2nd and 3rd run we're talking about. And a comparable system is getting 56 average here. That's with 512 ram. I'm trying an install of DX 9.0c. Maybe that will help, no idea why it would, but maybe. If all else fails i'm gonna try a reformat as maybe the 5200 drivers didn't get cleaned entirely.

You seem to have two problems:
1) 512 RAM -- you may want to try a gig.
2) 200w shuttle psu -- that's not enough juice for a 6800GT, get at least a 400w psu.

If you don't get any artifacts or errors when running 200w in a shuttle then you are fine, I am running 6800GT in a shuttle as well though mine came with 250W. There is a new driver out for Nvidia Cards, I am running on 65.62 it's beta..the official driver is 61.77. You can find them on guru3d.com Other than that check your settings, maybe you have AA/AF set on too high. If I set 8X AA, 8X AF I get about 30fps.

Shuttle XPC SB75G2 V2
1GB 2x512MB DDR 500 HyperX
120GB WD Hard Drive
Lite-On DVD-RW 812S
6800GT eVGA
2.6 P4 800 Northwood
Vantec Spectrum Fan

I usually get more than 50...

are you running dual monitors? My FPS doubled when I disabled my second monitor before running doom 3.

hmmm... "Mobile 2600+ at 2.3ghz" this may also be your problem man try and OC that thing a little more. In gam Im getting like 45-50FPS (when Im watching the counter) on a 2500+ @ 2.52 ghz 1gb XMS PRO XL 210mhz 2-2-2-11 on a BFG 5900NU BIOS modded to past BFG 5950U speeds...also in dual monitor mode I lose a ton of frames untill I set my monitor acceleration to single disply or turn it off completely

On the system in my signature, I don't see it drop below sync very often at all. (At least I haven't noticed after extended sessions.) I have plasma lighting turned on, player shadow on, and a few other performance hit features. I'm running 1280x1024 in High Quality, but I turn off AA, and turn AF down to 4x. Just dropping AF down to 4x speeds the game up incredibly without any noticeable IQ degradation. (I'm sure you could tell if you took identical screenshots, but you can't tell in the slightest while playing.) I wonder if it's V-Sync and your LCD, dropping the frames per second to half. That seems to be a common problem.

Yeah but this is with a XP 3200+ and no AA and 8xAF. Plus they didn't use "demo1" for their benchmarks.

Start from scratch and recheck all your video settings in the nvidia control panel Doom3.
Turn off AA and AF. Run a few benchmarks, turn on AAx2, run a few, turn on AAx4, run a few. ....etc

I get around 10500 in 3DMark03 as a side note

This is decent for your setup and makes me think it's something specific to your Doom3 configuration.

XP 3200+ is only 2.2ghz hes running 2.3 ghz so hes faster provided hes on a 200mhz bus or faster.
so that goes out the window

this true? I'm also getting around 30fps on doom 3 at 1280x1024 high quality on a p4 3.0ghz and 512megs of ram.

yes its true if you run dual monitors itll cut your frames in half or worse unless you do one of two things.

1. Turn off your second monitor in the control panel

2. Set your multimonitor acceleration to single display and not multi display in control panel...

I did option 2 and things play smooth as silk !

ive got your exact system, excepting the ram. i always get above 60 fps on the time demo, and im running the 65.62's 1280x1024, high quality with 2x aa. i rarely EVER get vsyncd down to 30, so yeah, im guessing something from your previous card is installed. that OR the card is getting TOO HOT during gameplay and the thermal protection is kickin in.. when it does that, it downclocks it ALOT, and you will experience a 15sec or so freeze in gameplay, followed by a huge (about 20fps) loss in performance. i experience this when i clock my card to high. so anyways, if you are experince that freeze, it could be that. if not... just try a new windows install :p

where in the control panel is multimonitor acceleration? I can't seem to find it.

Under the Performance and Quality Setting menu. You have to check the box "Show Advanced settings"
