Alright, my friend recently got himself a x1900xt and has decided w/c it. Just for the heck of it, I thought about the possibility of mounting the stock cooler onto my 6800GT.

A) Do you think this can be done (w/ or w/o modding)?

B) If it needs to be modded, how would I go about doing this?

C) If so, would it be worth it (got a BFG PCIE one, so already has a copper hs)?

Thanks :D

To answer all your questions as easily as possible...

TRY IT.

bada boom bada bing.

when you say copper hs, is it the one with the 2 little blue fans? if so, i would say DEFINETLY try it. I'm fairly certain some modifying will need to be done, ati's cards use 2 hole mounting last i checked, while nvidia uses 4. while using 2 bolts instead of 4 may not be the end of the world, i think they will not line up properly. So long as you are confident in re-applying your existing heatsink, rip it off and try to line things up.

No, its the PCIE version so it's basically like the reference 6800gt cooler except with see-through top and copper block instead of aluminum.

well what are your temps like? if they are pretty good already, I dunno as switching will net you more. i still say just try it :p

Idle: 48C
Load: ~65C

My friend got the 68/78 series mounting kit for his Maze4 block (for some reason, that was the kit he was told to buy to fit his card) so if it fits, I may try it. :)
