6800 v x800, info please..

Somethign else I would like to throw out would be the cost of these cards. I have been looking around and calling local retailers and what I found on www.NCIX.com seems to be the average price (CDN)

ATI RADEON X800XT PE - $799.98
*MSI GEFORCE 6800U (MSI NX6800ULTRA-T2D256 GEFORCE 6800 ULTRA AGP8X 256MB DDR3 DUAL DVI-I W/ TV OUT)* - $841.85
ATI RADEON X800pro - $631.22
GEFORCE 6800GT - not listed that i can see

$841.85 is only slightly on the insane side, what is "DUAL DVI-I W/ TV OUT" this is some kind of extra feature?

$841.85 is only slightly on the insane side, I thought the cards were priced the same or is this just outdated price listings?

The MSRP on the 6800u and X800XT PE are exactly the same at $499. The MSRP on the X800Pro and 6800GT are exactly the same at $399. In a few weeks there should be a larger supply of these cards on the market and prices will start to fall. The 6800nu hasn't been out but a few days and its already retailing for $299 on most sites and its MSRP is $299. The reason for that is because of the fact there is a greater supply of these hitting the market as they dont use the same high speed QDDR3 that the 6800u and X800XT PE uses.

And as most video cards have TV-Out, the 6800u has dual DVI ports instead of 1 DVI and 1 VGA. People with dual LCD setups will greatly appreciate this feature.

That's another thing that has me leaning towards the nVidia. I have dual displays and would benefit from the dual DVI. I've also found that nVidia has better support for dual displays than ATI....at least my geforce handled it better (more control features) than my 9800 pro. Around catalyst 3.4 or so ATI finally came out with rotation, but nvidia still has a couple of features that ATI doesn't (like easily moving the window from one screen to the next without having to drag).

But anyway, good info on this thread, especially since it hasn't turned into a flame war =)

I'm hoping my silentmaxx 550 PSU will do the job...it gets pretty hot as it is due to trying to be silent, but we'll see.

Coudln't wait anymore and ordered my BFG 6800U OC watercooled from chumbo.com (70mhz overclock)

They ship overnight for $5 which means hopefully I'll have it this Tuesday. Now I just need to wait for pctoyland to ship me my waterchill set so I can actually use the card =/

How much money did you spend on that 2GB of Corsair PC3200XL DaMaDo lol?

Last time i checked it was like $400 for a gig at the egg. I would never dream about spending that much on 1GB of RAM. Especially when Mushkin is better hehe :p.

And why is that? The 6800u will run 450/1200 i believe with just ONE molex connector lol. Why would you HAVE TO HAVE both plugged in for default speeds? And the cards come with a 4-pin y-splitter in case any of you bums are too cheap to buy a $.50 piece of hardware when your buying a $500 card.

It's not a matter of logistics, it's a matter of use and sense. It could work fine with one, but they wouldn't give the card two unless it was expected that you'd use both...it's not like they love throwing money away with their designs. :D

I damn well know that if I bought one, I'd be using both. Most people buying a 6800U are going to be the same type of person who would need and use both connectors. You don't go out and buy a FX-53 for the hell of it to play solitaire...you have a definite goal in mind when you buy hardware like this. Again it has nothing to do with technical details, it has to do with the way people are with their hardware...or at least that is the way I am about it. If I was intent on using one connector, I'd probably just get a GT.

That just might be MY impression, I know there are a lot of "minimalist" users in this scene who would totally disagree with me, but nevertheless I was merely stating my opinion. But hey, my PC is loud as hell and there are people who crave Zalman...so each to his own. :D

I was lucky enough to get my Mushkin PC3200 lvl 1 back in April for $200 at Newegg. Runs perfectly stable at 2-3-2-5 with no voltage increase. And i've still got $175 to do a hell of a lighting job :p.

what are the power requirements for the x800 series?

I would say a name brand 300-350w PSU. The power requirements are slightly more then that of the 9800XT.
