6800 Ultra temperature conflicts???

i just got a new 6800 Ultra installed and im having conflicting temp readings between
the nvidia display and speedfan!

nvidia shows the temp at 53*C/idle
speedfan shows the temp at 35*C/idle

my previous card was a 5950 Ultra and both nivida & speedfan had that temp at 38*C/idle

so why now am i having conflicting temps with the two programs on the new card? have i missed something?

I've never used speedfan, but it looks like speedfan got the reading wrong. 53c is about rite, not 35c. Try the latest version, it may have fixes.

I myself use RivaTuner for (ocing and) monitoring purposes.
 
Could that "video" be on-board video that speed-fan is detecting?

my last card (fx5950 Ultra) had the same temps for both programs
so thats why it makes me a little worried/curious
 
The nVidia one is right.. no way it's at 35 degrees... 53 sounds right, my 6800 OC idles around 50. Try Riva Tuner or something
 
35c might be the ambient temperature it reads something like that on mine as well
 
There are two temp diodes on that card. One for the GPU and one for the PCB temp.

I have a PNY 6800GT running at 400/1.1Ghz, and I use Gigabyte's Expertool utility to OC and monitor fan speeds, and it has my GPU at 53c, and the PCB at 35C.

I think it is reading your PCB temp and reporting it as GPU.

I'd say that's correct considering the nvidia panel is showing an ambient temp of 35c in that screenshot. :)

I have the 6800 gt oc and it runs around 51-55 c (i have a 120 mil fan rite over it) so it should be rite around there.
 
does anyone know if speedfan can be setup to show the video card gpu temp instead of ambient? or both if possible? i sent an email to the maker of speedfan but havent heard anything back yet!
