6800 Ultra PCIe bugs

Got my new big rig and it's running a 6800 Ultra PCIe. It appeared that right from the beginning that everything was working great after trying out a few games (EQ, EQ2 and Doom3). Outside of the somewhat fuzzy text (which I've improved somewhat with Clear Type), it was running like a champ.

I came across the need to switch EQ from full screen to windowed mode and back again using Alt-Enter. And boom, I got a problem. It reboots my machine and tells me when I get back in that I've recovered from a serious system error. Basically any window switching with a game no longer works, my old 4600ti could no it now problem with the same apps.

I called Alienware for some help and they recommended the newest set of Nvidia drivers (61.77). I would have done this earlier but my system told me I was replacing newer drivers with older drivers?!!? But I forged on with Alienware because they assured me this was the newest set of drivers possible.

Unfortunately now, I still have the same problem as before with Alt-Enter but I have a number of other NEW problems. For example, textures missing (trees with no leaves, ground with no grass), 10-15 second lock ups within EQ, flashing graphics, etc.

I tried a couple things in the FAQ but I'm still stuck. I tried rolling back to the OEM drivers but Windows says nothing was saved.

Any help to get me out of this mess would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Thanks I'm going to try it. Are these 3rd party drivers? Do they typically work better than the ones Nvidia provides?

Since I last posted, Doom3 completely bugged out on me too. Screen froze and when I got out, the Doom3 menu was garbled and the after that the Windows desktop was garbled. Sheesh!

Thanks.

Those are right from nvidia's website, but they are beta

If you go to the Nvidia control panel, what is the version of the bios on your card?

I was confused for a second. The original post had me on a different website (Guru of 3D) with different drivers. When I came back and looked again it was changed to the Nvidia website. I downloaded both and will start with the Nvidia beta drivers.

Bios Version is 5.40.02.31.02

Thanks.

PLEASE DO ALL 6800 OWNERS A FAVOR!!!

After you get your system stable please run a WMV HD video, like T2 or Step into Liquid, and report your cpu usage as seen in task manager.

Well, someone had to ask him right? :)

yes, if you can get this stable that would be appriciated by many of us :p
