HI,

Just bought a 6800 GT (Galaxy cause it had the fast memory and the Artic cooler), I'm having a nightmare trying to get some decent performance from it. I upgraded from a 9600 pro and I thought it was going to be blow me away with the performance. I'm playing FarCry and Lock On most at the minute, in Farcry high (not very high) settings at 1024*768, medium Anti Aliasing I'm getting about 45fps top, most of the time around 20, 25. I'm sure I was getting this with the 9600 Pro. Lock on is slower, you have to spend so much of the time tweaking this game at the start you get to know it really well, flying over land (No cities) i used to get around 45fps now it's more like 35. The thing is i ran 3dMark3 and I got 10,800 which i thought was good. Is there anything else i should be trying to see if this card is as it should be. What sort of Farcry performance are people with similar setups getting ??

I've downloading all the latest drivers and tried a few old ones, i reinstalled the OS in case the old ATI Drivers were screwing it up. Running a Barton 2500 at 3200Xp speeds, 1 GIG 3200 Ram, Windows XP.

Any help would be great

when you say reinstalled the os, did you format the drive and fresh install? Or just replace?

Did you install the latest agp/mobo drivers? They will make a big difference if not installed.

I would write zeros and ones to your hd then load the os.

Does anyone have an idea what FarCry performance I should be getting, must be similar systems about. what you all getting FPS wise

similiar problems here:

3dmark03: 105xx
(ok for me ... i don't like this benchmark)

doom3 (tdemo1, 2nd run) - 16x12, high
vsync off: 58 fps
vsync on @ 85 hz: 39 fps
vsync on @ 100 hz: 49 fps
(never get any lags while gaming ...)

farcry - 16x12, all settings very high, noAA, noAF:
(fps in the game ... no benchmarks)

max: 110-120 fps :D
avg: 60-80 fps
min: 20 fps

-> i dont understand this ... it happens e.g. in the end of the level "regulator", when you get out of the dark room see the 2 helicopters with a lot of "bad guys" coming down: sometimes i get under 20 fps ... a second later (3-5 guys attack me) i have about 60 fps even with all the stress around me ... then after killing them i look into a corner (i can't realize any special lightings or shadows) and get 20 fps !!

i have tried all drivers from 61.xx to 66.00 but no significant changes ....

i think that it is a problem only with farcry ... perhaps it is not very good optimized and so you get this strange performce lag ....

have you installed the farcry 1.1 patch? farcry didn't support the 6800 cards in 1.0.
