I've had this agp xfx 6800 nu for 2 years now and just recently the fan speeds are sticking on 3d mode even when I'm just on the desktop. I've run driver cleaner and installed the latest nvidia drivers on their site but the problem stays. I've tried riva tuner 2.0, and setting the 2d and low power 3d fan speeds to 25% makes no difference, only lowering the performance 3d setting changes it. I should add I was able to lower them all independently before (google shows that some 6800 had no independent control at all?).
I switched my motherboard and cpu from a gigabyte k8ns AGP board with a 2800+ a64, to the current asrock dual-vsta 939 board (combo agp/pci-e) with an x2 3800 last month. But this problem didn't start then it may have started when I had a to do a repair install of xp 2 weeks ago. I've had no other issues from that, not even needed to reinstall anything so i'm a bit baffled.
I'm having to change the fan speed every time i switch from gaming to desktop right now (it's way too noisy) so any help would be appreciated.
