I just got my evga 6800 today. The issue is whether i unlock the pipes and vertex shaders or not Farcry auto detects low settings and makes me play the game in low and there is artifacting. Im not sure if theres a patch but its pissing me off. Half life 2 seemed fine, i really couldnt tell the difference between DX8 on my old card and DX9 on the new one so it seemed ok. Not sure where to go from here. I havent oced it yet either

Sorry, i dont know much about how graphic cards are designed, but what pipes are you talking about? How do you unlock them? And what are the pros and cons of it?

pipe = rendering pipeline the 6800nu has 12 the GT and Ultra have 16
some of the chips that became nus still have 16 working pipes and you can use riva tuner
to turn the extra 4 pipes on
but not all have them woking and if you turn them on you get artifacting

some one im sure has a link around here on how a pixel is render thru the pipe im not sure the whole workings my self soo if some one has a good link about that pleas post it ^^

Unlocking the 6800 AGP version. THe pros are you get much bettter performance. THe cons are it may not work.

Try cleaning any old drivers and reinstalling the latest drivers from nVidia. After that make sure you are using the latest patch from FarCry.

Awesome thread in the link!

I have a BFG 6800 Ultra on the way. I am personally very chicken to do any overclocking :D and would personally like to just leave well enough alone and trust BFG that they make darn good cards.

However, do I need to pursue this unlocking of all 16 pipes? I'm not afraid to if it might actually help and it won't hurt a thing if it doesn't work. If I unlock all 16, but don't do any OCing, will that do any good?

Thanx, dudez.

Re-read the above posts.... Your 6800 Ultra already has all of the possible pipes unlocked... thats' why it is an "Ultra". All you can do to improve your card is overclock the Core and RAM speeds. I would expect very little OCing from the RAM and maybe 25-50MHz from the GPU Core.

I had a lot of problems running far cry as well. Make sure you are updated to at least version 1.3. That solved alot of my issues

Farcry straight out of the box will not like the 6800's, you definately need the patch.
