6800 - How limiting will the 128MB be?

With GTs being expensive & hard to find, I'm considering getting a regular 6800.

If my goal is to game at 1280x1024 with some kind of AA and AF, is this unrealistic? Mainly I play IL-2, I'll probably also take up LO-MAC and Tribes Vengeance. No Doom3 or HL2 for me.

Well, 256MB ram helps at higher resolutions, but I'd think a 6800nu would be fine at 1280x1024 resolution. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The 6800 would be a realistic option for you at 1280x1024 with 4xAA/8xAF for most games.

this is my first leadtek board actually, i went from msi, to gigabyte to asus to abit and now this leadtek. my only reason for buying it was that it is one of the 3 only S754 boards with PCI/AGP lock at the time...and i damn love it, hehe. great solid board, no problems great bios options. What more can i say....no clearance issues, even with my huge gainward card and small-ish lian-li case. 9/10 in my book :)

leadtek are generally great.

but the question should be what are you upgrading from? if i had a 9800p i would wait for the gt to drop in price adn get that instead. why pay 200$ bucks for a 20-30% speed jump when you can pay 250$ in a few months and get a 60-150% increase.

your playing last years games. but what will you be playing in 6 months? a new 6800plain will look long in the legs on the next round of games. if you keep your vid card for 1-2years i would say wait a little bit for price to drop on gt it will surely will start showing up in oem form from online retailers for 100-150$ less in the few months

but if theirs no games coming out before christmas that you want to play and your using like a gf 4 ti or older then its a great time to upgrade. to 6800plain

im an economist and hardware enthusiast. so id share my take on your situation

Yeah, I have a ti4200 & a 1.3Ghz Tbird and frankly, I need to upgrade now. Almost everything is framy...The other thing is that during university time, I don't have time to game a lot, so I fear a GT will be wasted...Don't wanna feel guilty for spending that much on a card I'll use only occasionally.

You are upgrading your CPU as well, correct? Your CPU is a major bottleneck and an A64 2800-3200+ would be a great, relatively cheap upgrade - on the more budget end of things, you could get the Barton 2500+ and OC to ~3000-3200+ without too much extra cooling (some AS on the stock fan works fine for some people I know who are running it at 3200+ speeds).
