After opening all 16 pipes on my GTO with Riva Tuner, I have recently been noticing a few hiccups in some benches and games (doom 3/3dMark05) that weren't there before. These seem to disappear when I disable the last quad, but I thought this seemed odd since I haven't been getting any visual artifacts in any of the stress tests I've run since enabling all pipes.

Does this sound like a problem that could be fixed by upping the voltage on my card with a BIO flash/mod (I have no idea what the voltage setting is for the GTO by default, but if it's the same as the NU then it may not have enough juice to run 16x1 stable)? Has anyone else tried something like this? For now I think I'll switch back to 12x1,6.

You know it may very well help if cooling is adequate because I've alwasy noticed nV cards reaact differently than ATi cards when OC'd too far. They usually stutter, but dont crash the bench etc. Maybe the quad is a bit weak for even stock MHz on stock V. In essence I think normal methods of increasing overclockability might help you. Try downclocking if you want to be on the safe side first. With the extra pipes running, the core is just about 33% stronger per clock, at least in fill-rate and pixel shader operations, so it might still be faster then it's 12 pipe speed.

I'm guessing the last quad is defective which is why they disabled it in the first place ;)

But no artifacts in 3dMark05/Doom3/FarCry/RTHDRIBL.... none! :(

Well, the thing is, after opening the extra pipes, my card actually runs about 5 degrees cooler than it did at the 12x1,5 configuration.

I don't really plan on OCing my card, since it artifacts at 400MHz core without overheating (it's temps usually max out at 86), and I don't really want to shorten my cards life span for such a minimal improvement. :(

That is how my 9800se > pro was, I only caught a glimpse of the bad pipe in far cry, I couldn't tell in any other game.

Say, does anyone know if the 6800 GTO is SLI capable?

I know it has the SLI connector, but on the nVidia website they say :

"These PCI Express-based GeForce 6 Series GPUs support SLI technology:
# GeForce 6800 Ultra
# GeForce 6800 GT
# GeForce 6600 GT"

I may be being a little too picky with terms there, but I want to be absolutely sure that the GTO supports SLI before I pick one up.

Anyone know?

yes, if it has the connector it can do it, the connectr isnt there for shits and giggles :)

According to my nVidia control panel, the GTO is SLI compatable... although if I was gonna go with SLI I don't know if I'd order another GTO or just go for a 2x GT or Ultra setup once the prices come down.

I was under the impression that in order to run two cards in SLI mode they had to be the exact same model as each other.

I think, if the price is right, two GTO's could perform quite well together.

Thanks for the info on the SLI capability. Nvidia should update their website to include the GTO as well in it's SLI list.

Yes, that's right... which is why I said I didn't know if I'd order another GTO, or go for a 2 GT or 2 Ultra setup instead (once their respective PCI-E versions come out).

The GTO is a great deal if you're already getting a dell ($330 to upgrade from the craptacular default x300SE on the 8400 and $150 to upgrade from the default x800SE on the XPS) but, right now, Dell is charging 400+ for a stand alone GTO card

Kinda like the Asus 256MB 6800NUs...

Ah yes, ok. Now I understand.

I suppose you're right. I'm just itchin to get these cards ready for the moment an SLI board comes out. Probably would be safter just to wait, I think.

my GTO is running perfectly fine with no hiccups at all in benchmarking with all pipes opened, thing is temperature problems, i've been getting around 95 degrees playing everquest 2 maxed out graphics with OC, but 88 degrees with everquest 2 maxed out graphics at stock settings

I've been reading various forums and have seen both success stories and users who were not able to unmask the hardware-locked pipes. Unwinder (author of rivatuner) looked at my info and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. Can anyone who's had success with unlocking a 6800 GTO let me know what BIOS version you have? If it's different than my version, can you dump it and email it to me?

Here's my info. Thanks for any info/help.
