Can't seem to find any decent review comparing the two.
Obviously, the GT runs with 16 pipes as opposed to the 12 of the Pro but also suffers a lower clock speed...
creedAMD said:The x800pro runs as fast and sometimes faster than the 6800ultra. The GT should be able to overclock to the ultra (we are all hoping.)

Vagrant Zero said:Ya, when the bench is cpu-bound. You crank those babies up to 1600x1200 and 9 out of ten times the Ultra will smoke the Pro...or so ever other non-HOCP invalid and inferior review would have us believe. But know, we're too smart for that, we KNOW they're all wrong, every last one of them.

And what is up with the Far Cry benchs? I thought we'd all agreed there was something seriously buggy about the whole thing. Why do people post those benchs as if they mean a damn? Anyone with their brain attached to their fingertips doesn't need a bench to know that Far Cry runs better on ATI hardware. Seriously, it's one game, yet people are posting benchs of it as if it were the holy grail of gaming. It's pathetic really. All the Nvidiots should post benchs of D3 one every other thread when it comes out. That'd be pretty funny, and payback is supposed to be a bitch.
oqvist said:UT isn´t a very good game measuring video card performance even though it´s a bit better than Quake 3 of course. UT2004 is in essential a dx7/dx8 game and as all UT games very cpu intensive.
oqvist said:As you see in benches Far Cry is video card dependent and UT 2004 is CPU dependent.
It takes 5 seconds of playing them to noticeUT engine as the one used for UT 2004 is old and it shows. It has to be to be able to be playable at the high framerates fps players demand and at the pace UT 2004 runs...
CyberCRAP said:Not to defend nvidia too much, but isn't the 6800 in all the farcry tests still use the pixel shader 1.1? If so the farcry results mean jack shit. Since they are no indication of future performance. Of course if i'm wrong you guys can jump on me like the pack of wolves you are.
oqvist said:6800 ULTRA in NV3X mode runs faster than in R300 mode... Also 9700 PRO in NV 3X mode run faster than in default R300 mode...
It doesn´t say all for sure of course the 6800 ULTRA isn´t optimized for running the same way as ATI cards but still...
I think it´s valid as of now.
When patch 1.2 comes everyone will bench with that and hopefully most issues will be fixed then and all speed optimizations removed.
And the truth is the Crytek engine brings just about all that was going to make the Half Life 2 engine and DOOM 3 engine so special... True no HDR and not all dynamic shadows but the Far Cry patch enabling it may very well arrive before DOOM 3. And we got Thief 3 doing it as we speak
Far Cry is the most representable engine as of date really.

Far Cry performance should greatly improve with the v1.2 patch and enabling of SM3.0 in Nvidia drivers - the 1.1 version is totally messed up on NVidia cards currently.
This would be more proof than anything that the problem lies with the game code, not nVidia's card.creedAMD said:And when the 6800u runs in r300 mode it fixes all of the graphical problems that are seen in farcry on the Nv40, at a performance loss of course as oqvist just said.

creedAMD said:What's the chance that crytek wrote the game code correctly for the r300 path but still can't get it right for the nv40 path? It is a TWIMTBP title. That's one hell of a ball to drop.
