6800 GT or X850XT...?

I am building a friend a gaming rig, which of those two cards should I get. He will be eventually playing at 1280, but for the first 6 months or so 1024x768. This will be his only graphics cards for like 2 years. Also, why are the 6800U's so fucking expensive they are all 400+ on the egg.

buy an x800 gto2 and make it and 850xt pe, look at club it they usually have them for 200! i just did it and i dont regret it

I overclocked my evga 6800GT to 420/1140 easily.
