6800 gs AGP--getting hard to find?

Is it just me, or are these cards pretty scarce? Going to the usual places, like NewEgg, ZZF, Monarch and ClubIT, there is a very limited selection. Or they are out of stock.

eBay is not much better--the prices commanded/selling for are the same as the new cards are going for, if you can find them. Is this a sign that another mid-range AGP solution is coming or just not many of these being made?
 
ya , i think there starting to phase them out, uree best bet is a used 6800 series or a 7800gs, or just do a complete overhaul
 
Believe me, a complete overhaul is what I'd like to do, but it's not possible anytime soon. I guess I'll sit tight and wait for the 7800 gs to drop a little bit more.
 
6800gs is built on a larger die, uses more power, but does have 256-bit memory clocked at 1000mhz versus the 7600gt 128bit-memory clocked at 1400mhz. Core clock diff. is 425mhz on the 6800gs versus the 560mhz on the 7600gt.

6800gt - 350/1000 (16 pipes)
6800gs - 425/1000 (12 pipes)
7600gt - 560/1400 (12 pipes)

The 7600gt is faster by 10-15%.
 
Okay, that makes better sense then. I read the 700mhz memory clock and got concerned, but if it is indeed 1400, then it should well be a little faster. My goal is to run BF2 and a couple other games at 1680 x 1050. Super duper eye candy is not necessary, just good smooth framerates and some eye candy, if that makes sense. I'm trying to get one more good year out of my rig before a rebuild.

Thats one thing that I think Nvidia needs to work on.. most of their new agp cards don't offer a big enough of a step from their successors.

6800gs (unlocked)

7800gs
6800 Ultra

They are all in the same range performance wise.. :confused:
 
I agree the predecessors aren't light years behind one another, but I'll be going from a 9800 Pro, so it will be a good jump for me. The rest of the system is plenty solid, so if I can get one more year and enjoy the native resolution of my new wide LCD, I'll be very happy. Just not quite ready to drop $275+ for the 7800GS...
