6800 and Rivatuner (voltage)

Hi all...

Just got my new inno3d 6800NU, pipelines locked down due to artifacts, but vertex unit unlocked...

Ive replaced the standard cooler with a nv silencer 5 (with articsilver3 on the core, thermal pads that came with it on the memory) and temperatures are roughly idling at 40 deg C, under load at 55-60 absoulte tops..

ive overclocked to 395/870 and performance seems to be fairly decent (10500 in 3dmark03), now the problem is..

using rivatuners hardware monitor, it shows the VID as 1.0 solidly, now i thought on these NU cards the VID should be 1.2 underload, from what ive noticed ive not seen it move.... which leads me on to my second problem, since applying the new cooler when starting up the pc, i seem to hear an intermittent buzzing noise (almost like the fan is buzzing - like when u lower the voltage on some fans), in windows it seems to dissapear...

anyone had any experience of these problems??

could be not getting good power or its just borderline
 
Its running off a 400W decent railed powersupply, It just seems weird that its making those noises since i applied the new cooler...

im just wondering does the 6800 throttle the fan speed, the only time ive heard a similar sort of noise is when using a speed controller on a fan that didnt overly like it??

as for the 1.0 VID, its rock solid on that voltage, havent seen it shift in the slightest up and down, like its there by design... odd thing is im not sure its even being reported right because i cant imagine it letting me run loops of 3dmark at 390 core with only 1.0 VID...???

whats the amps on the 12v rail i had a 400 that JUST bearly was ok for my GT
 
It's possible that you are seeing the voltage for the 2d and not the 3d. They are different. My EVGA 6800nu runs 1.1v in 2d and 1.2v in 3d.

I did consider that, but ive run rivatuner in recording mode while running 3dmark, and the voltage does not budge up or down, i did expect it to step up slightly in performance 3d mode.

The odd thing is, the buzzing seems to have stopped slightly now ive reduced the overclocked on the core to 390, even though performance before was fine.. the voltage is still sitting pretty at 1.0 though.
 
Mine says 1.0 too, doesnt seem to be affecting anything though.
 
what is the VID?
The rivatuner says to me that the core VID is 6.0.Is that right?
I have an 6800GT.
 
I think its the voltage going to the core, heres a screenshot of what rivatuner show me, I assume we are talking about the same thing.

I think its just a glitch in the program that it shows up as 1.0, cause like you said theres no way we would be able to overclock if it wasnt getting enough voltage.
 
yeah thats exactly the same, i got an answer on how to get it to read correctly off guru3d forums...

I had the same problem with rivatuner (15.4)
try this, open hardware monitoring, click setup, then click on core vid (next to the tick) and then setup, and then click more, next click on autoselect. If this still gives u an incorrect reading, just try experimenting with the interpretation mode setting until u get the correct value, a wrong setting will not damage ur pc.
btw, I thought the stock core vid voltage on a 6800nu was 1.1v, not 1.2. (I could be wrong)
