A little teaser

BF3 Singleplayer:

680 SLI BF3 - 5760x1200 FXAA - 61.6 FPS AVG
680 SLI BF3 - 5760x1200 2X AA - 51.6 FPS AVG
680 SLI BF3 - 5760x1200 2X AA+FXAA - 50.6 FPS (highest playable setting)
680 SLI BF3 - 5760x1200 4X AA - 40.1 FPS - (memory bottleneck, stuttering)

I will perform Multiplayer 64 Player testing with 680 SLI for the evaluation.

Article should be up next week.

I wish you could also do 6990+6970 for comparision too but that probably wont happen either....

edit: posted another graph in the other 680 sli thread. Shows 7970 cfx and 680 sli head to head

How did the 7970s do with 4x AA?

nice, thanks for doing a 64 player test on the cards, will be interesting if the 2GB buffer chokes the cards.

they did do a 6990+6970 review but its a bit dated now. doubt they even have the cards anymore to test it again. :p

I wonder how many cards [H] are using for those figures? I'd really like to see 2, 3, and 4 cards tested.

waiting for 3 gig gtx 680 cards so there aren't any memory bottlenecks running at 5760 x 1080 3dvision surround. look at the metro 2030 benchmarks between these cards vs the 3 gig 7970s, especially with AA. you see the gtx 680 hampered by the 2 gig framebuffer. btw, I love the adaptive vysnc feature + overall card power/performance efficiency.

just use 2xaa or no aa, at that res you dont even need aa.

why wait and waste money for something you dont really need.

There wont be 3gb versions, there will be 4GB versions for sure though, I believe EVGA already announced 4GB versions on the way.

I'm hoping for an overclocked 680 SLI vs overclocked 7970 crossfire benchmark as well, just to show how well the cards scale with additional mhz. That would take a TON of time though :(

Are you sure those were caused by amount of ram and not limited by bandwidth ?

Yeah I'd pitch the 256mb bus being the bottle neck. That being said, I've heard the relative bandwidth is still better than a 580 which has a 384mb bus. (as you hope it would be)

can you put in minimum frame rates? That's really the only number that means anything really. Avg of 60 with a minimum of 20s is still a terrible experience imo. AVG of around 80 with a minimum in the 40s is usually the entry to a decent game experience.

Any idea when the article detailing Adaptive v-sync and gpu-boost/overclocking will be up?

Really looking forward to that one.

If the frame rate is dropping to like 1-3fps that would indicate 2GB isn't enough. If it's stuttering, could be something else. Hitting the frame buffer limit is like hitting a brick wall in my experience. Frame rate just drops to almost 0.

Correct but on the evga forum the product manager said that the 4GB version will be out in a few months. How many months? No idea.

Stupid to give this card 2 GB of ram.

From what I have heard 2GB is perfectly fine for non-Surround resolutions. Not sure about Surround resolutions since no one has (yet) done an in depth review of 2GB v. 4GB. Gonna have to wait for Kyle to score a few cards of the 2GB and 4GB flavors to report on that...

That 10 FPS min is pretty clearly some kind of driver issue, since the single GTX 680 gets 20 FPS minimum with the same settings.

This.

It will probably be a couple of months before all the SLI profiles for these games are updated for the 680.
