i'm baffled with this one. system has been running fine for about 4 months with 4.6 overclock at fixed 1.28v. recently, cpu is overheating like crazy. here is my build.

Intel Core i7-6700K
Corsair H115i
Asus MAXIMUS VIII RANGER
Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2800
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Hitachi Deskstar NAS 4TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB FTW DT GAMING Video Card
NZXT H440 (Matte Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Corsair AX850
Windows 10 pro 64

updated bios and set all the settings back to default.

first thing suspect is of course the cooler. pulled cooler, everything looks fine reinstalled. installed stupid corsair link software to verify pump was working and and pump is fine at 3000rpm.

i am using the intel burn test 2.54 for testing which i've used many times in the past.

here's what's bugging me and what i think is causing the problem but not sure how to fix. my 91w tdp processor is pulling 115 watts at stock, seems excessive, and hits 100c in about 30 seconds. i've never seen it do this before.

see image below. any help at all would be appreciated.

according to that pic, the chip is running with 1.392V Vcore, which is stupidly high for stock clock as you know, you were at 4.6ghz with 1.28V that's the first thing to check..

the other thing to check may be the Corsair H115i pump.. even if its running at 3000rpm it may have a problem with the pump impeller being loose and not having enough force to move the water (I suffered from a somewhat similar issue like 2 years ago with an h100i unit).. in those cases the pump motor is rotating but not the impeller ( which is a plastic part more or less like this ) the flow may be weak or null, this is easily to check by looking at the water temperature (you can check it at corsair Link) or touching the hoses (one should be insanely hot and the other cold.. if the pump is failing).. or you can simply test with another spare cooler if you have.

anyway I would start by checking the CPU voltage setting applied in BIOS.

love you guys. put my scythe mugen 4 on there and temperatures are back to normal.

time for corsair rma. they were good in the past when i had to rma my h70.

:)

Yeah.. shit happens, but they have an amazing RMA service, so you will be fine.. when I had that issue with my h100i RMA went flawless and the received new unit is still working like a champ.. you will be fine.
