We are very pleased to announce the release of a number of version 6.0 clients to open beta testing.

Of note, the Linux uniprocessor and SMP clients have been merged. You can now control SMP versus uniprocessor behavior by using the -smp flag. See the FAQ for more details. The OSX/Intel client remains SMP-only.

Also of note, we do not yet have a Windows v6 SMP client available for testing. Windows uniprocessor clients are available.

Careful guys:

If you are running an SMP work unit or vice versa, you must finish that work unit with the appropriate client settings before changing the -smp flag.

Wait until you're done with your current v5 work unit before experimenting. I tried v6 and it trashed my work unit. Luckily I backed up my v5 folder before trying v6 or I would have lost 66% of a 2653. I restarted with v5 and all is well. I will experiment this weekend if I can catch it at the start of a work unit.

 
The trick is to use the -smp switch always. Then it should be a straight swap. Backups are always a good idea, as is waiting for the current WU to finish. For example...

-smp AND -config
-smp AND -configonly
-smp AND -send all
-smp AND -delete x
etc.

Running the client at any time without the -smp switch may hose a SMP work unit. Stanford is already working on a safety check to prevent this type of thing in the future.
 
Yeah, you guys got me straightened out at Folding-Community. I forgot to use the -smp flag before -configonly.
