i just want to flat out know what card is better, no opinions facts!
the 6600gt is 200
the 9800xt is 400

i searched through the forums, nothing that states which is better from the books

6600gt owns 9800. are you waiting for someone find a benchmark for you?
There was a benchmark link posted on Hard frontpage couple days ago..

More or less even. For every benchmark in which the 9800 wins, the 6600GT wins a different one. If the numbers you cited are prices, the 9800XT for $400 is a ripoff! Get a 6600GT for $200, or wait for a sale on a 6800 vanilla- they are often around for $230-$260, which isn't bad. Besides, the 6800 outperforms the 6600GT as-is, and has the potential for mods.
If you're even thinking about spending $400 for a video card, you have two options:
1) Buy a 6800GT.
2) Buy a 6800 standard, and we'll split the difference- should be between $100 & $170 altogether, so I'm expecting a check for at least $50.
Personally, I'd recommend #2. ;)

FACT i have a xfx 6600gt and my friend has a 9800xt and he cant play the games at the res and settings i can
FACT

well i bought mine and the reason i listed the prices is because this dumb kid says there is a reason its so over priced.. but all the benchmarks listed GT won most of the ball games.

A 9800XT for more than $250 is a ripoff IMO. For under $400 you can get an X800 Pro which trounces the 9800XT. Given those two choices get the 6600GT.

if you wanna spend 400 bucks..... if i were you, i'd grabbed that 6800GT right away because you were gonna spend 400 on a 9800xt!!!!!! or a 6600gt for 200 would be fine :) ;)

i agree
AND I DID
lol

Because the 9800XT used to list for $400+ retailers won't mark them down. They are hoping dumbasses will buy them for that price. They won't mark them down because on paper at least they'll lose money. They are right of course. Eventually they'll have to give up on it and take a huge loss.

The 6600 has more horsepower than the 9800XT but another factor to consider is heat and power consumption. The 6600 will draw more and produce more heat than the 9800 will.

Bottom line, price would be my determining factor. The 6600s do perform better in a broader range of benchmarks than ATi's tend to. Also keep in mind that the 6600 is a newer generation GPU whereas the 9800XT has already been surpassed by the newer x800 GPU.

Here's some data to chew on.

Manufacturers only take back so much old stock or defective items per quarter or per month. Alot of companies won't take stuff back at all unless it's defective.

I got a chaintech 6600GT for xmas. So, I gave my 9800pro to my bro. It's not a huge improvement but if I had to choose between the 9800XT I'd go for the 6600GT. The 6600 runs my games, Halo, Sims2, Call of Duty very well. I can turn up the aa and af a little more than the 9800.

My benchmarks:

9800pro
Aquamark3 - 48,354
3Dmark05 - 2433

6600GT
Aquamark3 - 52,433
3Dmark05 - 3295

Picture quality seems a little better on 6600 because of the higher aa and af settings. Halo looks better on the 9800pro though. Anyone else notice any quality differences?

the fillrate/s math you will have to do yourself, but from memory its a bit less than the 6600gt...

if they are similarly priced, the 6600gt although somewhat crippled by its 128bit mem to core bus(though apparently it doesnt hinder as much as it did with nv30), is still full of the new tech that makes the newer cards from NVIDIA so popular...the 9800xt may, with some OLDER games show better performance, but the 6600gt will be the better and faster card with new games like Farcry, HL2 and Doom 3...yes, the err, B!G 3 blah, blah....anyway, some1 did suggest saving a little longer and buying a 6800/gt(12/16pipes/256bit mem bus, 5/6 vetex units yay!:)) which IS the best idea, as then there really would be no contest...

out of 9800xt or 6600gt...6600gt by a long neck, but waiting and saving a bit more to get a 6800/gt wins race by many lengths!! good luck!!

That is what I was thinking. Why spend $400 for a 9800xt when you can get a x800 or 6800gt..
