6600GT overclocking and cooling

How do I overclock a 6600GT (AGP)? Also what would a good cooling system be to install. No liquid cooling systems please. Thanks



And if anyone has the ratio for overclock : temperature...

ie. How much does the temperature go up for ever few megahertz overclocked for both the Chip and the RAM.

there is no accurate way to predict temp increase. To many variables from system to system.

Rivatuner or coolbits are good overclocking apps.

Thanks for the apps...but on average, without going out and buying any type of cooling system, how high could i actually overclock a 6600GT. Not an accurate measure...but an estimate.
 
I would say from what I've been reading (average pulled out of my ass, not from actually crunching numbers) most people seem to easily get 550 core and 1.14 memory. I think mentok has a nice little chart around here somewhere, but not sure where.

So i could pull 550/1.14 without going out and buying a heatsink? Even though it would be recommended probably.
 
This is a little change in topic but i was reading in the thread you linked me to, that Bandwidth is more important than the core speed...i was told the other way around that the core is most important? Which is true?

Also, what brand comes with the best heatsink...is it XFX? And one more thing...I read in another forum that someones computer was reading there XFX 6600GT as being in a PCI slot and not a APG slot... would that be a motherboard issue, or would that be an issue with the video card. Just concerned future buyer...cuz i think iam gonna go with the 6600GT.

Not really sure about how the to relate to performance individually. I believe it depends on whether you are going for faster framerates, higher resolutions, or image quality enhancement. Someone else will have to give you the technical breakdown on that.

Opinions vary. I personally prefer the leadtek version, but the XFX isn't bad in my experience. Alot of manufacturers use an nvidia reference cooler design with different stickers and logos.This article http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2295 goes into some detail on the various heatsinks and their effectiveness. I know the XFX models now available have a different heatsink than the one reviewed, so it is possibly not up to date on other heatsink changes by other manufacturers, but good for a starting point.

I have read similar statements as well. Usually this is the result of improperly installed motherboard chipset drivers.
