I am currently in the market for a new video card. My old card (Radeon 9500pro) is causing my games to crash.
I was looking at the XFX 6600gt for $140 or pretty much any 6800 nu for around $200. I play mainly FPS games at 1280x1024 or less. Is the 6800nu worth $60 more than the 6600gt? Will there be a GeForce 7 series card around this price range soon thats better? Thanks

(edit: These will be AGP)

Get the 6800NU, but i own a 6600GT and its pretty awesome in games but yea man go for the 6800NU its better.

6800: You have the chance to unlock the extra pipes and overclock
to near 6800GT levels.

Even without that, though, it's still got a 256bit memory bus as opposed
to the 6600GT's 128bit bus; and even if you can't unlock the extra pipes,
you can still overclock it.

Since you will be playing at 1280x1024 and lower than it's probably safe to assume that you will be using lots of AA. Therefore there is no contest; the 6800nu is the best card. With AA enabled the 6800nu beats the 6600gt by more than 50% (this is, of course, due to the larger memory bus).

People also often forget to mention that, in addition to the larger the memory interface and the chance at unlocking the extra pipes and vs, the 6800nu also has a substancially better hsf than the 6600GT and it also produces noticeably less heat since it consumes less power.

"Consumes less power"?! Say what?

You do realize the core on the 6600GT is .11u, while the 6800 is .13u, right?

Happy 6800NU owner here: buy the 6800NU. It kicks the pants off my neighbor's 6600GT comp (now mind you he has an Athlon XP and I'm on S939 so there's a little more at work there) but the AGP 6800NU can unlock. Mine does, but I get weird blue lines all over so I can't use it. However, CS:S went from 105.4FPS to 115.7FPS just on unlock. Now OC it and you might hit near GT speeds (in that test, about 130 FPS).

6800nu worth the extra money.

AND if you can unlock the pipes & vertex its even better!! (close to 6800GT performance)

newegg used to have a plain PNY OEM 6800 for just over 150 bucks!

I haven't seen them listed there in awhile though.
