been a bit lost with all these new cards. i'm using a 9800pro, that's on it's last legs for some reason.

as i understand it the 6600gt has ddr3 whilst the 6800 does not.
the 6800 is still more expensive i think, but which one is the better card?

i would suspect the 6800 has better potential for overclocking and the like, but apart from this, what other advantages does it have over the 6600gt?

I've read the architecture is 256 bit on the 6800 series, while only 128bit on the 6600s. Also there is more pixel pipelines on the 6800 series. Check out some comparison tables on the internet.

The result of every post asking this question is overwhelmingly in favor of the 6800.
It has a superior memory interface and the ability to unlock the disabled pipes & 1 disabled vertex unit. Unlocking is not always succesful mind you, but even without it the 6800 outperforms the 6600GT especially at higher resolutions and or IQ settings.

Hope this helps.

Go with the 6800. At higher resolutions (1280x1024+) with AA/AF turned on, the extra pipes will help out with performance.

All I know is having used both the 6800 is worth the extra dough. I don't get into all of the techical mumbo jumbo, I speak off results. 3dmark scores and gaming results both speak loud enough for me. Check out this thread if you are intested in a BFG 6800 OC too: 6800 OC

Good Luck
Tim

Not saying to not get a 6800, but if you do go with a 6600GT, these perform very well.

I've got an MSI PCI-E model and I'm extremely happy with it. With Zalman VF700-cu cooling (which I'd also recommend on the 6800), I was able to over clock core to 570 and memory to 1146 (could go higher, but this was extremely stable and not hot "58 degrees during full load").

At that rating I'm getting 4076 in 3Dmark05. Very good in my opinion. I'm eventually going SLI when I pick up another used on ebay this fall.

Let us know what you decide on and how it performs for you.

thanks for all the replies. i think it's the 6800 i'll get then.

btw, i was looking at some cards and noticed that inno3d 6800 and 6600 (an some others) have "Integrated NTSC/PAL TV encoder up to 1024*768 resolution".

does anyone know what this means? i wouldn't mind a card that could take an external video in that can convert to vcd/dvd etc. is this what it means?

not very clear about it on their site:

thanks for the help
