6600GT Full screen problem on TV

When I use the full screen option to display video on my TV the image is bigger than normal (zoomed in). I am using Media Player Classic to view the movies. I use the option in the player to resize the video to fix the problem (make the image smaller). I tried windows media player and VLC still same problem. I have my TV connected to my video cards over S-Video and running clone mode. My PC monitor is Primary and TV is Secondary display. I tried adjusting the screen size using the drivers but it keeps resetting to the old setting every time I play a new video.

I have another Shuttle with an AGP 6600GT (WinFast A6600 GT TDH), which has the same problem (system currently not working due to PSU failure).

I am using the same cable that came with the WinFast for both systems.

Shuttle SN25p
XFX GeForce 6600 GT 256MB DDR3 (PV-T43G-UD)
2GB Ram DDR400
AMD X2 3800+
Maxtor 250GB SATA
WinXP SP2
Latest Drivers for all products.

Your problem is that your TV is not set for the same resolutions as your computer. Have you noticed that when you plug in a console to your computer and play it using your monitor, that it look horrid? It goes the same way around too. You can tweek it a LITTLE to make it look better, but the only way to get a good quality picture/size is if you buy a hdtv *which is pretty much just an oversized pc monitor.

I did not have this problem when I used to use the built in video card with my Shuttle SN41G2 which had an nForce 2 chip set

It does not matter waht res I set or what adjustments I make to the TV screen everytime I start a new video it resets to the same way.

what's the refresh rate set at?

My refresh rate is set to 60hz.

Ok I found a solution by mistake while messing around in Dualview mode. I was trying around diffrent resolutions to see if any of them would make a diffrent when I noticed that the color of the backround on the TV has changed to a wired color or lack of it in that case (had defult windows backround). I did not care and tried to play the video and it showed in full screen in the right way. Finaly it is working. But why is the backround color like that? well it seems that the Color quality got set to Lowest (8 bit). When I changed it to 16 bit or 32 bit the old problem showed up again.

Is this a bug in the drivers? What should I do next?

BTW durring the testing I tried connecting the componet cable to my TV also I faced the same old problem. I could not set the color to 8 bit to see if that would fix the problem.

One last thing even though it is working now the video quality comes no where near as good as when I disable Fullscreen mode and just set the TV as a Primary display and make the video full screen the old fashion way.

I think the problem is that your resolution is too high. Set it no higher than 1024*768 for a standard TV.

You might also want to go into your nVidia control panel and zoom out with the screen adjustments.

Windows will reset settings back to default when it tries one that doesn't work. That's why i asked about your refresh rate. If it was too high for the TV, windows would reset. But 60 should be correct. So i'm not sure. Have any luck since?

If you check my post you will see the details. Basicly the only way it works fine is if I set the display to Duelmode and set the TV color to 8bit. When I play the video it is not 8bit its in full color. But only in the 8bit setting does the device adjustment get saved when I set it once I do not need to do it again. I tried it when the color was set to 16/32bit and it keeps ignoring the changes i make once i play a new file. I do all the adjustments while the video is playing. I am using the Divx codecs and watching TV shows.


Does any one know where I can get more technical details about how fullscreen mode works. If I read more about it I might be able to find out wht is going wrong. I want to report this to nVidia but I want to make sure that other people are facing this problem first.
