6600gt fast enough?

hey building a good, not extreme gaming system since im still in highschool and dont got that kinda cash. its either i buy a 9800xt, or a 6600gt. I could get the 6800 but its kinda higher than i would like . if neone has some good info lay it on me
 
6600gt would flatten the xt, get the gt.

I think the problem is that the xt is probably over-priced.

Yeah man, get the GT, I just built my buddy a system with a GT and it runs things might smoothly.
 
If you can scratch up the extra, the 6800nu is definately a better option for the extra ~$30 or so, depending on which prices you look up where. Extra 4 pipes, 256bit memory interface, plus the option that you might be able to open up all 16 pipes and 6 shaders (standard 5). But, if the 6800nu seems a bit too much, the 6600GT will run great.
 
The performance difference between a 6600 gt and a modded nu is not that great. The thing is the memory on the 6600 is really good.
 
im guessing your getting agp too? between 9800 and 6600. im going to get a 6600 but in pci-e with nf4.
 
I know in the HL2 benches on Anandtech.com, the 6600 GT and the 6800 are within the margin of error for each other.
 
The 6600GT is about as fast as a 9800XT. But slower than a 6800NU.
In short, it will do you for at least a year of "hardcore" gaming, and probably 3 years of regular gaming.
 
yeah man the 6600 GT is a good choice. If i didnt already have a 9800 pro that could play everything currently id definately get one.
 
ok guys looks like the 9800xy is a no go, since the others seem to be faster. God has spoken (hardocp video editor) and he says get a 6600gt, the only thing with that is the regular 6800 wont cost me much more if i buy online so if there is a "divine" diffrence tell me, and possibly a link and i should be able to grab a few more bucks
