I'm sure I'll bottleneck with my system, but I'm wondering how bad and if it's worth it to get a nice card now, then have to buy another card when I upgrade the rest of my system with PCI-E. I can't afford to upgrade the whole thing right now, but I definately need a new video card - in particular, a DX9 card. Any suggestions would be great. Thx.

I'm currently running:
Athlon XP 2400+
768mb of PC 2100
KT400A
Geforce2ti (I know, I know)

My 6600GT AGP is a great card. I wasn't going to get a new card because I had a 9800pro but I fried the 9800 and needed to find something else. I am very happy with this card. For me it runs every game I can throw at it and does so very well.

Now I know the 6800nu might give you better scores but I don't see any reason to buy one when the 6600GT does a dang fine job.

i have a very simliar setup as you, i have the same processro and 512mb of pc2700. I am interested as well in the 6600gt agp because i do not have the cash to buy a new motherboard, graphics card, and cpu right now.

I think it will be the best improvement for your system. It will defintly be worth getting I think. You will be able to play Hl2 and other games pretty nice with that card. I went from a ti4200 to 9800pro a while ago and was very very happy. A Gf2 to a 6600gt though would be heaven for a while.

I have a 6600gt, I tihnk ti was the best 219$ I spent on a video card.

Text in general is so clear, textures look much more clearer, it just looks so much better, I was an ati fan boy, and, now, I really like the quality of the new nvidia cards.

I ahve a winfast a660gt tdh, it has temp sensors in it, came with a dongle so I could hook it up to my hdtv, and, game with soeim decent games I don't need.

To the orig poster, just to upgrade your system to move it over to pic-x would be a waste of time and money, but, eh, it is your bling, do what ya want.

Why would someone on the [H]ard|Forums buy a Dell? That's not very [H]ard. :D

just got my 6600GT (Leadtek) today and it runs HL2 very well with everything up to the max...my previous card was a Ti4200 128MB and AGP8X card and i thought HL2 looked good on it....looks a good deal better now and still runs great (except for that stupid sound bug, but that's the game's problem...)

in other words you should definitely get it...

Strapped for cash and Dell gave them a line of credit.

And often times, with the right coupon codes, the price can't be beat;)

Still..it's a dell. I have to say though, they have some nice LCD's and customer support is the shit.

By the way, I plan on getting a 6600gt, anyone suggest going MSI, EVGA, or Gigabyte?

Not a fan of Gigabyte of MSI personally. I have little experience with their video cards but I am not fond of either as brands in general. I hear nothing but good things about eVGA. In fact I've got an eVGA 6800GT on order and I should hopefully, have it next week. I've never owned an eVGA card before. But I have installed a few of them in other machines and so far I like the brand.

Really, surprised about MSI. Do not know much about their cards but they make great mobos. I have own two previously and just ordered the Neo2 Plat (which I am told is suppose to be pretty damn good). We shall see, I am still undecided...

I've had good experiences with eVGA video cards. As for MSI and Gigabyte: Gigabytes server motherboards are quite good, and their consumer boards are pretty good, too (though a friend of mine was burned by their gimmicky "dual bios" feature; why couldn't they just put a socket under the bios chip, so you can replace it if the bios is corrupt?). With MSI, some of their boards are outstanding, and others make you wonder if it's the same company that made the outstanding boards in the first place. How this translates to video cards, I'm not sure exactly. :p Go with MSI if you want a red-colored video card, Gigabyte if you want a blue-colored video card, and eVGA if you want a plain-looking one.

so your saying youd send someone you mobo, cpu, and ram all for a power supply? In that case, id nearly be willing to just give you my aspire 500 watt sleeved psu.
