6600GT AGP Microsoft Combat Flight Sim 3

I'm running 71.81 drivers and recently reinstalled Microsoft Combact Flight Simulator 3. Last time I played it I ran it on my 9800Pro - which was fine. With my 6600GT the game play is very smooth but will freeze once in while and then the graphics corrupt - purple and black sqaures on the terrain etc ...

I've reinstalled the game twice and got the latest updates from Microsoft but it's still screwed. Any ideas?
