I can get a used 9700pro made by ati for $90 or a new 6600 non-gt for $122. Which one do you think is a better deal?

Tough decision. A used 9700 Pro that is either already out or on the edge of being out of warranty. Or a new 6600 card. Which would you really prefer? The performance will be about the same on both from what I can tell.

well my bro has a 9700pro, p4 2.4c, 1gb of bad ram, and he gets more than 100 fps in CS:S @ 800x600. i could probably get it to go over 100 fps at 1024x768 with some console commands or a slight overclock.

i dont know what the 6600 would do.

I had a 6600 non-GT in my P4 3.0. My friend has a 9700pro in his P4 2.4. The 9700 pro was totally better in some games, such as Halo and Far Cry. The 6600 kicked as at Ut2004 and Doom3. I think if me and my friend had exactly the same specs, the 9700pro would have totally kicked ass.

I'd get the 6600. There stock performance isn't that great but they OC like mad. It uses the same core as the 6600GT but at much lower clocks. The only reson I could see to get the 9700pro is that it has 256-bit mermory so you could probably expect beter AA performance.

im in the same boat..

since were on the topic... and these are fairly similar cards..
how bout a 9800pro vs 6600gt

/hijack thanks

9700 Pro with its 256mbit memory interface is gonna run over any 6600 vanilla with ease.

9800pro vs 6600gt..the 6600gt is a bit faster.. a 9800pro is a bit faster than the 9700pro..the 6600 non gt is a crippled version of the 6600gt..the 9700pro will eat up the 6600 non gt..
