6600 GT running WoW poorly

Hi, I just built a new system from scratch. here it is:
p4 3.2 ghz lga 775
2gb pc-3200 dual channel (1 gig from one company and 1 from another but otherwise identical)
evga geforce 6600 gt pci-e
raptor 10000rpm sata hd

anyways, i'm getting the 6800 gt and have this card as a placeholder til it gets here but i didn't expect to have to keep the draw distance to a minimum and turn off all the extras. even at 800 x 600 i have to keep the draw distance at minimum...is there anything i can do to determine what would be the bottleneck?

sounds like driver/game issue? does it happen with all your games? r u oc'd? reinstall your nvidia drivers....and use driver cleaner to do it.

Go to your BIOS and try increasing your AGP Aperture to 256MB. Worked wonders for my 6800 with only 128MB of RAM. Similar to your 6600GT.

My guess would be the drivers (Back when I ran the game I had a slower system than you with a 9800Pro, and was able to max every setting at 1920x1200 and still pull a decent framerate.). Although WoW never keeps the draw distance as far out as I would like it, you should be able to go considerably above minimum. If drivers don:t fix the issue, you could always try to force WoW to draw longer distances in the config.wtf file. I don:t remember what the maximum setting was, but I think it might have been 750.00. After you:re done, just make the file read-only.

Well I technically can run it at a farther draw distance but it turns into a slideshow :( I'm trying the driver cleaning right now :(

WoW is very Ram limited, but you obviously have enough of that...

Seems very odd...

Perhaps a driver issue? Run Driver Cleaner, and install the new 75 drivers.

256 for 128 that seems like alot?

ummm WoW ran fine on my P4 1.6ghz 768mb RAM geforce2 32mb PC...sooo I'm thinking it's server lag or something that happened A LOT during open beta.

Wrong, server lag isn't gonna cause a drop in framerate.

yeah, it'll help a bit, but not to the extent as solving his problem.

can you verify that everything is working properly in the device manager, and that everythig is running at the supped it's supposed to?

man i play wow with a 6600gt, no problems at all. i have all the settings maxed out on nvidia's setting controls, and all of wow's settings maxed out also. sounds like something isn't set up right. even at 800 by 600 your video card isn't even a factor. hell when they test computer systems for benching they turn the video resolution down so the video card isn't even a factor. even my old computer which was an amd 2200 using the built in nvidia graphics could play wow at 800 by 600. have you tried any other recent games besides wow?

What does 3dmark03/05 say as well?

I play at 1280x1024 with most things maxed. Only thing that kills my rig is Ogr. I drop to < 10 fps often...I may have to upgrade my rig for battlegrounds :)

in 3dmark you should probabily get around 3k i built a machine for my friend with the 6600 gt and thats what his scores

I run a 6600GT as well, no problems.
My sister is on a P4 1.5 with Radeon9600 pro, no problems.
I've often found that WoW's lag is hard drive access. Can you hear your Raptor thinking when the frames drop?
