Is it possible to link one 6600 and one 6800 nvidia graphic card in SLI?
Or is it limited to just two 6600 or two 6800 sli?

no.

Only 2 of the same series cards (6600gt, 6800gt etc..) buy the same manufacturer

So will asus 6600 and gigabyte 6600 will not work togetherin SLI?

Correct. They must be the exact same model from the same Mfg.

That is the "party line" but I question it. If you have two straight reference design cards, say PNY and XFX, you flash the bios so they both have the same brand, it's not going to work?
I can't see why not, it's not like the motherboard looks at your receipts.

The answer to the OP is obviously no.

I havent read anything on anybody trying different types of cards (6800 & 6600). Has anyone tried it?

I never really thought about that too, I think they should work together since they are the same card, just different manufacturer

According to the SLi faq on Nvidia's website, 2 of the same cards (e.g. 2x 6600 GTs) will only be supported if they are from the same manufacturer.

that doesn't mean it won't work. especially if you flash them with the same bios.

I think its like Dual Channel memory if the cards had the same clock speed memory ect and the mobo sees it as the same Its possable it would work.

What about running a 9800Pro and a 6600GT in SLI?

Respond in a serious manner and be made fun of.

I have Leadtek 6600GT-TDH which runs at 500/1000Mhz. I am planning to get another graphic card for SLI and i found that there's 6600GT-TDH EXTREME which runs at
550/1120Mhz.

I am curious if 6600GT-TDH and 6600GT-TDH EXTREME will run in SLI or not.
Man this is really confusing:/ I will ask leadtek and see what they say.

In that case no, or they will run at the lowest common denomonator

Well, the way that SLI works - dynamic partitioning of the scene - I could see it supporting cards with slightly different clock-speeds OK. If it doesn't, it'd probably be an artificial driver restriction.

i beg to differ my good man. both must be the same chipset, but can be different manufacturers, but is recomended to use same manufacturers, and drivers. and just a side note, if you have difference clock speeds for the two cards, the sli configurator thing will automatically clock both cards at the lower clock of the two cards.

Of course you can run different manufacturers, at the moment no manufacturers are really differing from the original process. The other reason you can't do 6600GT and 6800GT is that it's probably keyed, too. Not in the sense that you would need a new connector, but the 6600GT's connector is probably 2in further into the board, I haven't researched this, but I hve the feeling that it is the truth
