Well Im totally sick of my 9600XT lateley... Plays FEAR at 640x480 with Medium Settings... And plays Quake pretty crap to at 1024x768. So I've been looking at all my options.

I don't want to upgrade my total system just yet untill Vista comes out (If it ever does)
So Im just looking for a cheap option to keep me happy in the mean time.
And of course I've been looking at the 6600GT...But then I look at the 6600.

They are based on the same core... Same pixel/vertex pipe lines. But one totally pwns and one is pretty much exactly like my 9600XT.

Can anyone tell me why they are exactly the same... But yet so different? Does everything have todo with the clock speeds?
And before you go off getting Newegg links... Don't bother as am in New Zealand not the USA or Canda.

So my cheapest prices are:
6600 = $160
6600GT = $240

The 6600GT is much faster than the 6600 plain. I guess it's because of clock speed and the fact that the 6600 only has GDDR not GDDR 3. Memory latency and timings are more agressive on the GT whereas on the 6600 you get 128 or 256 of some cheaper slower vram.

the GT kills the 6600. You can buy a 6600gt for about $129 these days.

6600 > 6600gt
is like saying
V8 Mustang < V6 Mustang

The gt has more muscle (better clocks and MUCH better ram).
