How much better is the 660 ti than the 660 -- seems like the price differential may not be worth the boost in performance. Also curious about opinions on 'boosted' boards like the EVGA 660ti FTW signature 2.
Like 20-25% on reference models... The EVGA 660TI FTW Signature 2 its the most powerfull of the 660TI's editions. And the difference its pretty much bigger, as this card can auto OC more than factory boost OC, in both of mine cards the boost should be 1124mhz.. However itself go to 1254mhz one card the other 1250mhz wich its pretty nice, in fact are paired with slighly oc'd 670 and better than most reference 670. I tested this with my brother that have a ASUS 670 DCU2 OC and the mine are better in most cases... Of course this was made at 1080p. On higher ress the 670 will perform better due to the 256 bits... But back to the main theme.. The difference between 660 and 660ti FTW signature 2 its pretty considerable..
I studied this religiously for months before I took the plunge in purchasing the bare bones GTX 660 and I have no regrets (then again coming from a GTX 260). Everywhere I researched pretty much summed it up as, "Is the GTX 660 Ti faster? Yes. Is it worth the $100? Hell no!"
The few frames a second it was showing in most cases were not that impressive and when you compare the specs it's easy to think it'll perform more like a 670, which is NOT the case. The 670 on the other hand is a very healthy jump over not just the 660, but the 660 Ti as well. If you're like me where money is somewhat tight and you want the biggest bang for your buck. Buy a sub-$200 EVGA 660 and if you get another $200 sink it into another for SLI where for $100 more it'll completely dominate a 670 and be up to snuff with a 680 and possibly then some for $100-$150 cheaper.
They really bastardized the 660 Ti model with the 600 Series and really just kind of butchered the entire Kepler models when they felt so ahead they could sell the 104 part as the high-end 680.
I'm happy with my 660's in SLI for less than $400 + free S&H. No regrets and my wallet is happy that if it had to spend the money it did me solid.
If you can wait a month longer. The GTX 760ti will be out for around $300 and it is essentially a GTX670. Perhaps this will push the price of the 660ti down.
