1) What will you be doing with this PC?

This PC will be for a family member just looking for suggestions. Thanks for any help guys!

My suggestion:

$270 - Phenom II X4 945 + Asus CuCore HD5770

$150 - Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 + G.Skill DDR3-1333 4GB

$63 - Corsair 400CX 400W Power Supply + Samsung Black DVDRW

$70 - Cooler Master RC690 II Basic

$55 - Samsung F3 500GB Hard Drive
---------------------------------
Total: $615. Some budget to spare.

If you wanted to spend your full budget (plus a little more) you could change the Proc/GPU Combo to this combo:

$320 - Phenom II X4 945 + Gigabyte HD5830
Which would bring the total to $670.

That being said, both GPU's will run any game maxed out on a 17" monitor.

Oh I forgot to say this earlier but I highly suggest you invest in upgrading XP to Win7.

I like shadows build except for the case.. The one abov ends up being 69.99 shipped where the NZXT BETA EVO Classic Series CS-NT-BETA-EVO Black ends up being 32.98 shipped with the promo code listed until the end of the month & then 47.98 shipped afterwards (this is the 2nd promo code in a row so there may be another when this one ends) & its still a very well designed case.

Have to strongly second Shadowssong's case recommendation. Easy cable management, great cooling, quiet, and my parents just love the look of it. Heh, sorry bastage! :p

Oh I have no argument about it being a better case.. But not enough better to be worth the extra cash in my eyes.. Atleast not on a budget build.. Thats 37 dollars of difference so only 13 off from getting the 5830 combo instead of the 5770

That is true, but the OP is only playing at 17" so I think the 5770 would be plenty, not to say I wouldn't always suggest to get the most powerful card you can get :D
